Hear us out: Sometimes it is possible for ride closures to be a good thing.

A lot’s been happening in the early months at Disney World. Rides have closed for lengthy refurbishments and one land has already begun shutting down in preparation for a retheme. While January and February have seen plenty of attractions become inaccessible for guests at the same time, we’d argue that this might be a good thing.
January was a killer month for rides. We saw eight attractions shut their doors — some temporarily and others permanently.

The following attractions are closed temporarily for refurbishment:

The following attractions are PERMANENTLY closed:
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
- TriceraTop Spin
- Chester & Hester’s DinoRama (including Fossil Fun Games)
- Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures

There are a couple of reasons why everything closing at once could be a good thing.
For starters, there is a defined construction season. If you’re planning on waiting until later in the year to visit Disney World, most of these closures won’t affect you.
Instead of having to pick and choose which attractions you’re ok missing out on, all of the temporary closures (except for Big Thunder Mountain, which will be closed all throughout 2025) will be open in the summer and beyond. At least this way, you know which months to avoid.

We usually see quite a bit of construction during the early months of each year. January into early March is as close to an offseason as there is at Disney World, so suggesting that guests plan around the early closures is not exactly a new piece of advice.
With that said, 2025 has shown an uptick in expected closures, so the tip to avoid these months becomes a little more important.

As for lengthy refurbishments and permanent closures, it’s probably best they do this now. Construction timelines are hardly short, meaning the earlier Disney can get to work, the sooner they’ll be finished.
Think of it like ripping the Band-Aid off. With Disney starting work on all these projects now, we can get through the construction phase and into the fun phase faster.

Realistically, we wish rides would never have to close down. Alas, that’s just not plausible. Instead, we’re making lemonade out of lemons and looking on the bright side of things.
