We have exciting news from Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
Many people love heading to Pandora right at rope drop to get on Avatar Flight of Passage first thing in the morning. It’s a technique that makes sense since this ride can have really long waits later in the day. But after a flight around Pandora on the back of a banshee, nothing sounds better than a tasty breakfast. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been breakfast served in Pandora in a while, but that has just changed!
When Satu’li Canteen first opened in 2017, you were able to grab breakfast, lunch, and dinner here. However, the breakfast ended up going away and only lunch and dinner were offered. But as of November 1st, breakfast is BACK!
We love that we now have a breakfast option in Pandora that offers more than just one breakfast sandwich. Since so many people begin their day in this part of the park, it’s a wonderful new addition. Plus, this quick-service restaurant offers indoor cafeteria-style seating. Yay! Air conditioning! Another bonus — it now opens for Early Theme Park Entry.
The new breakfast menu offers four new items:
- Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder Potato Hash — $13.29
- Cinnamon French Toast — $12.99
- Frittata and Beef — $14.29
- Tropical Pandoran Forest Fruits — $11.99
Kid’s items include:
- Cinnamon French Toast — $7.99
- Cereal with Milk — $5.49
We stopped by to check out all of these new offerings!
Starting with the Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder Potato Hash for $13.29! You get a potato hash made with a mix of sweet and white potatoes, chorizo sausage, and topped with charred onion sauce. We noticed there were far more sweet potatoes than white potatoes in the hash, so someone who’s not a fan of sweet potatoes might not enjoy this as much. The charred onion sauce is for sure an onion sauce; it is very strong! However, it is pretty fresh and bright. Mixed in with the potatoes are peppers and the slow roasted pork shoulder which is like pulled pork. It’s very good and tender with a rich flavor.
Now, let’s talk about the giant piece of chorizo sausage on top. It is huge, and it is not easy to cut. You will need a knife to cut it. It’s a bit spicy, but not unbearable if you like spice. Overall, we did like this dish, but you have to be an adventurous eater to enjoy it since you have sweet potatoes, peppers, chorizo, and the strong onion sauce. It’s interesting, but it all combines well to have a good balance of flavor.
Next up, something sweet! The Cinnamon French Toast is $12.99 and is served with blueberry cream cheese, passion fruit anglaise, and sausage. This is the prettiest new breakfast option, but we were pretty underwhelmed. The toppings were delicious; the French toast not as much. The French toast was tough, thick, dense, and hard to chew. It also only had a slight cinnamon flavor and was missing the fluffy French toast texture.
The blueberry cream cheese made us want to keep eating the French toast, as tough as it was. It is bright and fruity with a nice tang. The passion fruit glaze is smooth and creamy with some tartness. Unfortunately, you don’t get near enough of either of these toppings. The sausage that comes with this is just typical Disney breakfast sausage.
Back to savory we go! The Frittata and Beef is a vegetable-goat cheese frittata with wood-fired feef tossed in Chimichurri and costs $14.29. The egg frittata has peppers and onions in it, but they’re concentrated to just the top, so the bottom half is pretty much just fluffy egg. The egg was light and fluffy, but we didn’t get much flavor from it overall. We would have loved some more salt and seasoning. The dollop of whipped goat cheese on top did help a little by giving it an earthy and robust flavor. However, if you don’t like goat cheese, you’ll probably want to stay away from this dish.
The menu doesn’t specify what kind of beef is served with this, but it seemed to be just shaved roast beef, which was served cold. The beef ended up being one of our favorite things out of all the breakfast items! It had a good meaty flavor and was a great texture. If you eat the beef with the egg, you’ll definitely level up the frittata. The salad on the side was just topped with an oil and some salt. We suggest taking a bite of everything all together to really enjoy all the flavors better.
Finally, we moved on to the Tropical Pandoran Forest Fruits which has fresh yogurt, muesli, and honey for $11.99. This simple dish was our favorite of them all! It might have been the simplicity of it that actually made it so good compared to the complexities of the others. It was fresh and flavorful, but still light, making it a great breakfast option.
It’s very much like a fruit and yogurt parfait in the best way. It is a bit mushy with the yogurt and muesli (a cold cereal). The oats are crunchy so that helps add to the texture. All of the fruit, the strawberries, pineapple, kiwi, and blueberry jam, was fresh and sweet. This was definitely a winner and what we would get next time we’re back for breakfast!
Since this is a new service, it is possible that the kitchen will learn to perfect the flaws that we noticed in the meals. There were LOTS of great things about the dishes, and we really enjoyed the Topical Pandoran Forest Fruits. If you’re back in Pandora in the morning, this is great place to stop for a morning meal.
