Why Disney Needs New Rules for Space Mountain

Let’s be real. Disney World has a lot of rides, but some of them are just classic!

Space Mountain

For instance, Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom is such a classic. It’s been making us scream our heads off since 1975, and even with all the new tech and attractions Disney’s rolled out, Space Mountain still holds its own as one of the most beloved rides in the park. That being said, could it be even better? What if Disney went all out, changed the rules, and gave us some next-level upgrades to make it an even more stellar experience? Let’s get our daydreaming hats on tight and take a trip to space together!

As we were saying, we’d love to see Disney go wild and give us new rules and massive upgrades to Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom. The reality is that a full-on overhaul of Space Mountain like would probably take forever and cost a fortune, but hey, we’re just dreaming here. So, let’s talk about a few ideas that would totally shake up this legendary coaster for the better!

New Ride Vehicle, Anyone?

We’ve all ridden Space Mountain’s single-file, snug, three-person rocket.

It’s nostalgic, but what if Disney switched it up to side-by-side seating, like the other versions of the ride? Imagine sitting next to your bestie as you rocket through the galaxy, gripping onto each other for dear life.

But wait. What if we went even bigger? Picture this: You’re laid down flat, kind of like the Olympic sport of Luge. It would give the ride a whole new thrill factor.

You’d be zooming through the dark, face-up to the stars, feeling like you’re literally gliding through space. How insane would that be?

Now, this is where things could get crazy futuristic. What if Space Mountain went VR?

Imagine wearing VR headsets that make you feel like you’re piloting a spaceship through the galaxy. You could see all the planets, stars, and comets zooming by in ultra-realistic detail. And hey, while we’re at it, why not throw in some speed stats on the display so you know just how fast you’re going?

Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run

Better yet, how about personalized soundtracks, just like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind or Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster? Each ride could have its own spacey playlist. One minute you’re zooming to synthwave beats, the next it’s all epic orchestral tunes.

We love this ride!

Staying on topic, what if Disney pulled a total Spaceship Earth move and had a celebrity voiceover guiding you through the journey? You’re cruising through the stars, and suddenly, Morgan Freeman or David Attenborough is explaining the wonders of the universe.

Holiday Overlays (Year-Round?)

Now, to be fair, Disney’s already given us a taste of something different with the Space Mountain holiday overlays during special events. You know, that blackout version where it feels darker, faster, and all-around more intense? Yeah, that one. So, why not make it available more often? Seriously, if you’ve ever ridden it during the holidays, you know it’s a completely different experience.

  1. It’s physically impossible to put side-by-side trains because the clearance envelope is not big enough. The actual ride structure would be too close, nevermind the set pieces.

  2. I feel it needs something as well. Our family won’t ride it anymore. It’s so old and rough. That it hurts every inch of me and my kids, and the seats are awful. I agree the tight one behind the other is awful. Maybe one day they will make it more smooth and side by side would be nice. Right now we don’t enjoy it.

    1. ….they already ruined Disneyland…
…glad I was able to see it from the beginning when it was real Disneyland…. 75 now…..

  3. Alot faster.. choose your own soundtrack..sit side side with your bestie… also darker than before.. more special effects.. soundtrack should be love roller-coaster from the Ohio players 1970 hit song.
