Something major is happening at Disney World. This year has seen a ton of change coming to the “Most Magical Place on Earth.” The reimagining of EPCOT was “completed” with the opening of CommuniCore Hall, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened st Magic Kingdom, massive attractions like Test Track went down for refurbishment, and the resort’s skip-the-line system was changed to Lightning Lane Single Pass and Lightning Lane Multi Pass.

We even learned what the resort will be gaining (Cars Land, Villains Land, Monsters, Inc. Land) and losing (Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, Tomorrowland Shootin’ Arcade, MAYBE Muppet*Vision 3D) in the coming years. However, Disney has surprise-announced one more major change coming in September.
Since TRON Lightcycle/Run opened at the Magic Kingdom, the only ways to ride have been to either purchase a Lightning Lane Single Pass (previously known as an Individual Lightning Lane) or join a virtual queue at either 7AM or 1PM. Given the new ride’s popularity, both of these options usually filled up very quickly, leaving many who wanted to ride Tron out in the cold.
Until Now.
Beginning on September 9th, TRON Light/Cycle Run will begin using a traditional standby queue. Meaning that instead of waking up early or setting an alarm for 1PM in the middle of a park day to try and score a virtual queue, you can simply hop on a line and wait to ride TRON the traditional way. Lightning Lane Single Passes will also remain available for individual purchase as well.

According to Disney, TRON Lightcycle/Run allows guests to “leave the real world behind and join Team Blue in a quest across the Grid—the dark, computerized world with no horizons from TRON. Here, there’s no limit to the excitement.”

The coaster-like attraction, which first opened at Shanghai Disneyland in 2016, debuted at the Magic Kingdom in February 2023 after a long, pandemic-delayed construction process. The ride has been met with generally positive reviews for its experience and theming, though there has been some consternation about its relatively short length.

After nearly two years of a virtual queue, the Magic Kingdom’s TRON Lightcycle/Run is moving to a traditional standby queue beginning on September 9th. Stay tuned to AllEars for further Disney World updates.
