What's Going On With Those Mysterious Construction Walls Near Pirates of the Caribbean, and Why Are They GROWING?

We received many announcements from D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, and (sadly) many of them are still a few years away from becoming reality.

We can’t wait for Villains Land to come to Magic Kingdom, and while we’re a little hesitant to see how the new Cars Land will fit into Frontierland, we are still looking forward to it. However, there’s one area of construction that’s already begun in Magic Kingdom, and it’s now EXPANDED!

It was also announced at D23 that a new Pirates Tavern is coming to Adventureland right near the existing Pirates of the Caribbean ride!

While we still don’t have tons of information about this new restaurant just yet, we do now know that it’s expected to open in 2025. Back in June, Tortuga Tavern, the restaurant across from the attraction that was open very rarely, was closed. Then, this spot was transformed into a new shop called Tortuga Treasures in July.

At the same time, Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar, the shop you exit Pirates of the Caribbean into, was closed and has been under construction since. And now? That construction has MAJORLY expanded!

Construction Walls

You can now see the construction walls all throughout the first part of the Pirates of the Caribbean queue before you officially go inside. It stands to reason now that it’s extremely likely this is where the new Pirates Tavern will be, and Tortuga Treasures may stay as the main merchandise location from now on.

We’re still waiting for official confirmation from Disney, but for now, we’re looking forward to seeing how construction continues over in this area of the park (and are very glad it doesn’t currently appear to need to close down Pirates of the Caribbean at any time).
