The Perfect Time to Ride Haunted Mansion in Disney World

Welcome Foolish Mortals…come on, you know we couldn’t resist…

Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion has been one of Disney’s most popular attractions since the first version opened at Disneyland over 50 years ago, inspiring versions around the world, two feature films, and a plethora of merchandise. At Disney World, the ride has been a favorite at the Magic Kingdom since opening day in 1971.

Given this massive popularity, it can sometimes be tricky to figure out the best time of day to try and ride the Mansion. Luckily we’re here to be your ghostly guide, and used wait times data and our team’s personal experience to compile the best — and worst — times during the day to try and ride the Mansion.

Stretch Room at the Haunted Mansion

First though, a quick note about the Haunted Mansion’s wait times. As we’ve established, the ride is one of the most popular and beloved in Disney’s canon, and yet its wait times rarely exceed an hour even at the busiest times of the year. Why? Because the Mansion’s Doom Buggies run on Disney’s classic Omnimover ride system, which allows the ride to accommodate over 3,000 riders an hour, a massive number even by Disney standards.

Should You Rope Drop?

This is a tricky question. The Haunted Mansion’s wait times are usually pretty low right at park opening – – usually in the 15-20 minute range during the first hour of operation – – so if it is your be-all, end-all #1 attraction to ride at the Magic Kingdom, then heading there first thing at rope drop could make sense. However, just be wary that there are other attractions in the park that it might make better overall sense to rope drop, as the Mansion will see low times later on as well.

Midday has an Air of Foreboding

We definitely wouldn’t recommend riding the Haunted Mansion during the early to mid-afternoon if you can avoid it. These are the times when wait times are usually highest during a given day.

In Darkest Night

Aesthetically, the best time to ride the Haunted Mansion is after the sun goes down. The dark of night really plays thematically well with the Dutch-Gothic facade of the Magic Kingdom’s Mansion and its spooky grounds. Plus, wait times tend to get lower during this period, ESPECIALLY around the time of the Happily Ever Fireworks show and park closing.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Riding the Haunted Mansion during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party seems like a no-brainer, as the event has a similar vibe with a twist of whimsy vibe that makes the Mansion such a success. However, be warned that lines for the ride during the party tend to remain long during the duration of the party, though they will be shorter during the parade, fireworks, and showtimes if you’re willing to miss them.

The Haunted Mansion is well represented during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

The Haunted Mansion remains one of Disney’s most beloved attractions, and with a bit of pre-planning, you can ride it relatively easily a few times a day. Stay tuned to AllEars for further Disney World tips.
