Disney World after dark is a whole different place.

When all the guests leave for the night, some work is just beginning! If you’ve ever hoped to get the inside scoop on all the things that happen once the parks close, then this is the post for you!
Today, we’re going to cover 6 secret things that happen in EPCOT when it closes. Well, they aren’t really secret, but they are things that you might not even realize take place while you’re sleeping in your hotel room. They’re also things that can’t really take place in a busy park. Let’s talk about it!
Weddings
Very late at night or very early in the morning, weddings take place at EPCOT! Yep, folks can tie the knot at several popular locations throughout the park, like at Spaceship Earth or the countries in World Showcase.

In order for these events to be private, they need to take place when the park is closed!
Portraits
Did you know that you can hire a PhotoPass photographer to take your portraits in an empty EPCOT?

YEP! You can take your wedding, engagement, graduation, pregnancy, or even birthday photos in the park after the park closes or right before it opens. It’s usually still dark out when these take place, so it could make for some pretty cool photos.
Service Vehicles Drive Around
All the walkways throughout the park are used as highways for the service vehicles around the park! Things need to be driven from one place to another, and the lawns and flowers need to be taken care of. They also take care of park cleanup, making additions for the different park festivals, and more.

These vehicles couldn’t get where they needed to go during a busy park day. Doing it after hours ensures no one gets hurt and that guests don’t have to witness the upkeep that goes into the parks. Everything remains magical!
Ride Walkthroughs
The Cast Members at each attraction are responsible for closing procedures, which often involve ride and attraction walkthroughs to ensure that everything is free of debris.

This is also the time for Cast Members to ensure that maintenance is not needed for specific repairs and that all show elements are working.
Fireworks Testing
The nighttime spectaculars don’t just fall into place on their own! These shows are tested repeatedly before they’re shown to Disney World guests.

The best time to test these? At night when everyone is asleep! They could be testing only certain elements or the whole show.
You can sometimes score free food!
Right before the park closes for the night, or immediately after it closes, if you find yourself near a dining location, you might be able to score some leftover food that the Cast Members don’t want to throw out!

One of our editors once made it out of EPCOT with FIVEEEE of the ginormous pretzels from the Germany pavilion. FIVE. This is not guaranteed (please don’t go asking Cast Members for free food), but it can happen if you’re lucky.
And there you have it! We’ll continue to keep you updated with more Disney news and tips, so make sure to follow along for more.
