Right now Disney World guests are probably grateful for the 2023 EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival.

The festival offers a variety of entertainment and activities, from tasty food kitchens to fun scavenger hunts to concerts featuring some of our favorite artists! Guests will have plenty to do while perusing EPCOT today — but this morning, there was one thing they couldn’t do.
This morning, EPCOT’s flagship attraction, Spaceship Earth, temporarily closed. Situated in the park’s icon, Spaceship Earth takes riders through the history of communication in a 16-minute dark ride narrated by Dame Judi Dench. It’s a can’t-miss attraction for many, so you may be disappointed to hear it suddenly closed.

Typically when you see a ride listed as “Temporarily Closed” in your My Disney Experience App, the ride has had some sort of minor malfunction. Cast Members are most likely hard at work working to fix the issue. Often the problem is resolved quickly and the ride is back up and running on the same day.
In this case, that’s exactly what happened! Spaceship Earth is welcoming guests again, but keep checking the app for the latest information.

If you’re heading to Disney World, potential temporary closures like these are things you’ll want to be prepared for. Though you can’t exactly plan them for your trip, you will want to be prepared for the possibility of temporary closures like these.
Here are a few tips to handle these types of situations:
- Closely watch the My Disney Experience app for updates
- Make sure your My Disney Experience app notifications are ON so you can get updates (like that push notification we got)
- Discuss the possibility of potential ride closures with your family so you can cushion the disappointment if a must-do ride does go down for a long time during your trip
- Have a backup plan of what rides and other things you can do if one of your must-do rides temporarily closes
- Consider giving yourself 2 days in a park with a lot of must-do rides or buying a Park Hopper so you have the flexibility to come back to a ride that might be temporarily closed during a large part of your day
