Ranking the Marvel Cinematic Universe Shows on Disney+ So Far

We’re three shows into Marvel’s planned Disney+ series, even though there are plenty more to come.

Since three’s the charm, it’s time to break down how these shows stack up against one another! After talking to our own team of Marvel fans, we were able to set our firm ranking of the Marvel Cinematic Universe shows so far. And, we have some THOUGHTS!

3. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Even though The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is last on the list, we have to stop and say that it was still INCREDIBLE. The action sequences in the series were amazing and honestly some of the best fights we’ve seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far.

Unlike many other Marvel movies or shows, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was also able to tackle difficult topics regarding racial and social issues, as well as mental health, that are so important today. The series finally gave us Sam Wilson’s Captain America, while also telling Isaiah Bradley’s story. And, it was an incredibly emotional experience to see these characters get the recognition they deserve!

Despite the more serious tone in various occasions, there was still the GREAT humor and dynamic between Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. Their chemistry on-screen MADE the show as entertaining as it was. But, the show did feel like its own mini Marvel Cinematic Universe as it pulled characters from all over the place, like Sharon Carter, Zemo, and the Dora Milaje.

However, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was VERY predictable without giving a level of mystery. Many of the theories that fans held were figured out at the beginning of the series and held true at the end. There weren’t enough twists and turns to add a mysterious effect to the storyline or characters. The series almost felt like there was too much set up without a lot of payoff, appearing like more of a prequel to a Captain America film, rather than an entity of its own.

Plus, there were also WAY too many villains to focus on with none of them really standing out, whether you’re focused on Karli Morgenthau, the Power Broker, or the U.S. Agent, among others. Also, we needed more Zemo dance moves than we got (and that’s the real tea)!

2. WandaVision

WandaVision, Marvel’s first show, is DEFINITELY a close second (and, it was a tough call to not make it the winner). The show had a completely different tone than what we had seen previously for Wanda and Vision… at first, that is. And, then it took that harsh turn into reality, we got more history about Wanda’s past and the couple’s story together.

WandaVision itself was a really interesting and beautiful depiction of the cycle of grief for Wanda as she had to go through its stages amidst the creation and destruction of the Hex and discovery that she’s a Scarlet Witch. The music in each episode not only tunes in with the shift throughout the decades, but also the emotion in the show. And, the songs were SO unique and nostalgic, really making us fall in love with the series more!

It also set up more of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with references to the multiverse and the Young Avengers tie-in with Billy and Tommy. Namely, the reason that WandaVision didn’t win our hearts as the best, though, was because of the ending. It fell flat compared to the theories that many fans had created, leaving us disappointed in the turn of events.

The major complaint was that Marvel could have done a lot more with the ending (and we’re still salty about that removed Doctor Strange scene). It started slower than Loki and could be difficult for some of our Team Members to figure out at times. Plus, there were characters that were introduced too quickly and then left unfulfilled — specifically the villains like Hayward, White Vision, and Agatha.

But, we hope to see some of the unanswered elements incorporated in the next Doctor Strange movie that will feature Wanda!

1. Loki

It’s probably not a surprise to you that the newest Marvel show to make its way to Disney+ has ended up securing the top spot as our favorite! The series hasn’t quite wrapped up, as July 14th is the finale. While we’ve still got lots of story left to unpack, Loki has still been extremely interesting and gripping so far!

Loki really dives into the origins of the character being an antihero. A specific comment made in the show stood out to us, which stated that something good still has bad in it, while something bad still has good. And, since Loki is still technically a villain at this point (if we’re regarding his character development throughout the Avengers films), we get to see more of his spark for good tendencies ignited here.

However, he’s still just as mischievous as ever, which causes great entertainment for viewers of all ages. The multiverses finally playing into the expanded universe that will be taking place soon draws everyone in, not to mention explaining important information. There are so many hidden details, just like the other Marvel shows, which really have you thinking about what could be in store for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Of course, the show wouldn’t be such a hit if it weren’t for Tom Hiddleston playing the character. He has completely outdone himself in every acting department in this show from portraying sadness to snarkiness. Plus, he sings? And dances?? We didn’t know how much we needed that in our lives, but now we’re not sure we can do without it.

Other than the story plot or characters, there’s also another majorly impactful part of Loki that has to be mentioned — the music! The otherwordly tone of compositions is due to the British composer, Natalie Holt, who scored the show. She chose to use sounds that were completely unique and fully immersive to the multiversal element of Loki. One of these sounds is the theramin, which you can hear in the show’s opening credit music.

One of our Team Members (ahem, Morgan) justly nicknamed the show “Man Candy with Intrigue,” and we’ll just leave our love for Loki at that. Oh, and one more thing — OWEN WILSON. If that’s not enough of a reason to love Loki, we don’t know what else is!

Despite some of their downfalls, each of the Marvel series so far have been fantastic pieces of entertainment. They have really given us the expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe we’ve been looking for after the dramatic conclusion of Avengers: Endgame. And, the series have also made us much more excited for the future stories that will be told, even if classic characters won’t be returning from the first four phases.

Still, we are so excited for the new faces that will take over as the leaders of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, now that they’ve got more of their time to shine! And, we’ll be sure to keep you updated on all the new Marvel entertainment and news coming soon!
