NEWS: Disney World Power Outage Causes Several Rides to Shut Down

We’ve seen some pretty crazy things happen in Disney World!

We’ve seen some weird stuff in the parks.

We’ve seen wild weather, weird ride malfunctions, and even animatronics getting replaced with plants (we STILL think about that one!). And today on a visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we encountered something really unusual — a massive power outage!

When the power first went out, several rides and attractions were closed. When checking the My Disney Experience app, we noticed that DINOSAUR, Expedition Everest, It’s Tough to be a Bug, Kali River Rapids, and the Wildlife Express Train were all temporarily unavailable.

Once we arrived at the park, we were told by some Cast Members that many things in the Asia section wouldn’t be available, including rides and dining locations.

Cast Members were warning guests outside of the park.

However, once we got inside, we noticed that some things had begun to reopen. We found a sign with the posted wait times and it had Expedition Everest and Dinosaur listed as open, along with the Wildlife Express Train.

We also spotted that snack stands and dining locations were reopening. Thirsty River Bar was serving guests, as well as the Anandapur Ice Cream Truck. It seems like things are getting back to normal!

Dining locations were reopening as well.

Many gift shops had their power turned back on as well.

Some gift shops were open!

However, Kali River Rapids was still closed. Guests were lined up outside of the ride waiting to board when it comes back up.

UPDATE: Kali River Rapids has now reopened.

Over at It’s Tough to be a Bug, Cast Members were stationed outside letting guests know that it was closed. At this time, these are the only two attractions that are unavailable, but we’ll be watching out to see when they reopen!

Still closed!

We’ll make sure to keep you updated on this situation as we learn more. Cast Members did not say what caused the power outage, but luckily the park is basically back up and running as usual. Stay tuned to AllEars for Disney news straight from the parks!
