Today’s been a day full of new experiences at the Disney World Resorts, with dining, hotel rooms, health and safety procedures, and more!
While the parks won’t be reopening until July 11th and July 15th, the resorts have welcomed guests back again today. Although people visiting are required to wear a mask in public places, many guests have wondered what this would mean for pool days during their stays.
And, we’re here to give you all the details you need to know about how the pool areas are operating currently under new guidelines at the Disney Resorts!
Swimming Pools
Disney has already stated that guests wouldn’t have to wear masks while they’re in the swimming pools.
At hotels like Disney’s Riviera Resort, the splash zones were open with their water sprayers and other features operating for younger guests to enjoy.
The resorts will also be showing Movies Under the Stars currently near the pool areas! Disney’s Riviera Resort will be hosting their showings on Sundays and Thursdays at 8:30PM so guests can kick back, relax, and enjoy their favorite Disney movies.
Seating Areas
When we talked to a lifeguard, we were told that you were required to wear a mask if you’re walking around the pool area. However, you don’t have to wear one if you’re laying on a pool chair.
The pool chairs are distanced 6 feet apart from one another, so the resorts ask that guests don’t move them in order to keep up with distancing measures.
Pool Bar
Notably, at spots like Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, the pool bar was also still open for guests to enjoy!
Cast Members wore face masks, and at the register there was a plexiglass barrier, which we’ve seen several times throughout the day.

Is the slide open at the Boardwalk? What about pool games and activities?
Hi Iggy! Most of the hotel pools we saw did still have the slides in use, and they were just being frequently cleaned! As for games and activities, while we did not see the Boardwalk specifically, there were recreational activities such as Movie Night at the Riviera pool, and the community center was open at Bay Lake Tower!
Was there anything noted about what the max capacity in the pool areas will be? As the hotels start to fill up more I’m wondering if they will have to start turning people away at the pool. We’re planning to be there the end of July, so I’m searching out the answers to some unknowns. Thanks!
Masks, but no gloves….interesting.
