Disney Pic of the Week – Land and Lobbies!

Focus on Disney World by Barrie Brewer

I’m playing catch up a little bit here. I completely missed my Pic of the Week day last week. So this week I’ll be sharing two pictures. This first one is a behind the scenes glimpse of Living with the Land. I snapped this photo of the tomato tree while on the Nature-Inspired Design Segway Tour. Amazing that this is just one tomato plant!

Now onto the current Pic of the Week, hotel lobbies. The parks are not the only place to get great pictures in Walt Disney World. Every one of the resorts is teaming with amazing photo opportunities. From the fun and colorfully decorated value resorts to jaw-dropping, spectacular deluxe resorts, there is an endless supply of photographic material in the lobbies of Disney’s hotels. Here’s one from the Grand Floridian to get us started. Watch for Scott and Lisa’s lobby pics later this week.

  1. Can you give me tips on video taping the parades and fireworks at Magic Kingdom, WDW? Where is the best place to set up for fireworks, where is best place to set up for parades? I have a JVC HD video camera and want to get some really good videos of upcoming Christmas trip.

    Thank you.

Barrie’s reply: Hi Barbara – There are lots of great places to tape from. I’ll share just a couple – maybe someone else will add to them. For parades, I like to stand on the steps of the train station (on the left side, if looking at the station). It gets you just above the heads of people but not so high that you are looking down on the parade. Or in Frontierland there are some risers in front of the shops that you can stand on for the same effect.

For fireworks, you just want to be sure you have a clear shot of the area above the castle (no overhanging trees or signs in your way). Most anywhere on Main Street is good so you get a nice head-on view. I like to be in the hub, with the Partners statue in front of me so I can include it in the shot.

    Good luck and have fun!
