Disney Announces “Rivers Of Light” to Cap Full Day-Into-Night Experience Beginning April 22

Posted on
Earth Day, April 22, marks the culmination of much construction and the debut of significant changes at Disney's Animal Kingdom, as it transitions into a full-day experience: -- The all-new Rivers Of Light waterside show will premiere on April 22. This illuminating musical experience celebrates the magic of animals and humans and the natural world with a blend of performers, floating lanterns and theatrical animal imagery, set on the natural stage of Discovery River. -- Nearby Discovery Island will come alive each night with the new Discovery Island Carnivale that will captivate guests with music, dance, vibrant costumes, and tasty culinary creations, spreading from one end of the island to the other. -- The theme park's Tree of Life undergoes "awakenings" as the animal spirits are brought to life by magical fireflies that open a window into the body of the tree, revealing colorful stories of wonder and enchantment. -- Each evening the Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction will be bathed in the look of sunset with special lighting that will allow guests to explore well into the night. During the expedition guests can now enjoy the wildlife at night, and may discover two new species: African wild dogs and hyenas. -- When the sun sets, the Village of Harambe will become a hot spot with the new Harambe Wildlife Parti. Here, "party animals" can dance alongside local street musicians and entertainers, partake in exotic foods and libations and explore the diverse wares of village artisans and merchants. EDITOR'S NOTE: Michael Jung and Mark Renfrow, two of the creative team members behind Rivers of Light, participated in a live chat about the new nighttime show earlier today on the Disney Parks Blog. If you missed that chat, you can see it at the Disney Parks Blog YouTube channel.

If you're the parent of a child who has experienced the kids or youth clubs on Disney Cruise Line ships, you probably know that the activities go well beyond simple crafts and movies. The young club-goers have their own extensive itineraries from which to choose, and the selections are so engaging that the kids often don't want to leave the clubs. But now, visitors to Walt Disney World won't have to set sail to experience the same award-winning programming.

Here’s how Walt Disney World annual pass increases will affect my family

On Sunday, Disney fans woke up to the news that Walt Disney World and Disneyland had announced a restructuring of its annual pass programs. Of course, prices have increased, but some of the benefits and the names of the passes have changed as well, which can be a bit confusing. Today, I'm sifting through the details because my family and I renew our Walt Disney World passes next month, so we have to decide which passes make sense for our use in the coming year. Perhaps my comparisons and reasoning will resonate with you, too.
