Three of the four Disney World parks are currently seeing massive construction and updates, with Disney’s Animal Kingdom being high on that list.

While we’re excitedly awaiting the opening of Bluey’s Wild World in the park on May 26th, there’s a larger construction project happening over in the former home of DinoLand U.S.A. Tropical Americas will bring three new rides to the park, as well as additional dining and shopping spots, and now, Disney has revealed just how much they’re pouring into the project.
According to the Orlando Business Journal, Disney is spending $4.25 million on the Tropical Americas transformation. Records from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District show that money for the retheming is being spent in the following areas: roughly $143,000 for demolition, $1.1 million for electrical installations, and $3 million for the building structures for a new playground.

It gets MORE interesting though. A Disney spokesperson then told the Orlando Business Journal that those numbers do not reflect the full cost of construction. Yes, that means that the full cost of this new land will likely be well above $4.25 million, which makes sense to us. $3 for a new playground and no mention of the three new attractions coming to the area (other than the electrical elements)? Yeah, we’re interested to see the final bill.

While Disney hasn’t revealed full details on what is coming to the new land, we do know that Pueblo Esperanza will be at the center as a town with an open-air market, a large hacienda, a children’s play area, and a central fountain where guests can gather. There will also be an Indiana Jones-themed ride where DINOSAUR used to be, an Encanto-themed attraction where Antonio Madrigal communicates with animals in the rainforest, and a carousel featuring animals from a variety of different Disney stories.

Most recently, we heard from Joan Hartwig, the executive creative director for the project, who shared that members of the team had recently been to countries like Honduras and Colombia to ensure the design of Tropical Americas would be authentic. She’s quoted saying, “We always want to tell Disney stories from a place of curiosity and humility, and these trips allow us to go beyond simply re-creating the areas that inspire us.”
