WHAT is going on with the Haunted Mansion in Magic Kingdom?! Well, while Disney hasn’t officially announced anything, the iconic ride has been getting a bit of a facelift recently.

Scaffolding has been surrounding the ride for months, and while we can’t see what’s going on behind it, new aerial photos reveal just how intense this work appears to be. Let’s check it out!
The Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom has been undergoing exterior maintenance for a while now, with a large scrim covering the facade. While we don’t love that we can’t see the original structure, we do think it’s hilarious when Disney puts up a scrim showing what is normally behind it. That begs the question: What is going on behind it?

Disney hasn’t officially said what work is being done, though the ride is operating normally, so other than being an eyesore, this work shouldn’t impact much of your visit. However, thanks to @bioreconstruct on X/Twitter, we’ve got a new aerial look at what’s going on behind the curtain. You can see scaffolding and scrims in front of the mansion, along with protective brown tarps covering the roofs.

Back in December 2025 and January 2026, we spotted some permits for work to be done on the Haunted Mansion, which likely match up with the construction taking place now.
The January permit application followed the permit Disney filed on December 26th for the same location. That first permit was to “install set elements,” with Mecca Productions, Inc. listed as the contractor. Mecca is a full-service design, fabrication, and installation firm located in Central Florida that creates props and scenery for theme parks and attractions, museums, and corporate events.

The contractor on the January permit application is listed as MLC Theming Inc., a frequent Imagineering partner whose name on Walt Disney Imagineering filings is often tied to construction support on construction projects.
Since the ride itself is still operating normally, it appears as though these permits and the subsequent construction work are mainly for exterior facade updates, though we’ll let you know if that changes.

We’ll be on the lookout for even more changes at the Haunted Mansion and regions beyond. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to AllEars for the latest Disney news and more!
