Disney Fans Are Finally Getting What They’re Begging For in Magic Kingdom

It’s FINALLY happening, and we’re honestly having a hard time believing it.

A land we’ve been waiting YEARS for is finally underway in Magic Kingdom. While we still have a loooong way to go until we get a chance to step into it for the first time, we’re already dreaming about the day we can step into Villains Land for the first time!

See, here’s the thing: For years now, you’ve been able to meet tons of your favorite Disney heroes throughout the parks. We’re talking the Disney Princesses, Chip and Dale, Mickey and Minnie, Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan, Rafiki, Russell from Up, Buzz Lightyear, Woody and Jessie — the list goes on and on. But the Villains? Well, that’s been a different story.

You have been able to meet Darth Vader in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Drizella and Anastasia in Magic Kingdom…but that’s about it. Now, sometimes you can catch rarer Villains characters roaming around the parks during special events like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. But even so, we’ve felt there’s been a lack of Villain representation for a while.

About 10 years ago, this didn’t strike us as odd at all. Sure, a lot of us have some Disney Villains that we really liked, but we didn’t think it was necessarily odd we couldn’t meet them often in the parks. (After all, Villains usually cause mischief, and maybe those aren’t the vibes you want on your perfect Disney day.) Then, things changed a bit when Disney Channel released the film Descendants in 2015. In this film, the main characters are the children of iconic Disney Villains Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, Jafar, and The Evil Queen, and they start out as Villains themselves! As the film goes on, they travel to Auradon and learn goodness, turning them more into your classic Disney heroes, but this was the first time we saw a WHOLE film where our main characters are Villains turned Heroes. Since the film’s release, it’s been followed by THREE more films in the franchise, with Descendants: The Rise of Red in 2024 being the most recent. A fifth installment called Descendants: Wicked Wonderland is also on the way and set to release in Summer 2026. It’s clear this idea of focusing on Villains is a BIG hit!

So that got us, and a lot of people more into the Disney Villains, and we started asking: Why can’t we meet some of our favorite Disney Villains in the park? Finally, Disney has answered! Now, we don’t know exactly what will be in this land right now, other than Disney confirming that it’ll have “two major attractions, dining options, and shopping offerings,” but we’re hoping it’ll be full of all the Villain representation we’ve been missing out on for years.

From the concept art we’ve seen so far, it certainly looks like it’ll be spooky. Disney has said the whole land will be on an “incredibly twisted grand scale.” We also know it’ll be located behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and have gotten to see some aerial footage of what the land is looking like so far. We’ve still got a long way to go, but hey, we’re happy with any progress right now! At the time of writing, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently closed for a lengthy refurbishment and set to reopen in 2026, though no official date has been set just yet. While Disney IS making changes to the attraction, we’re also wondering if another reason for the closure is that you can see the construction on the land from the ride, and Disney doesn’t want us seeing it just yet.

It’s also important to note that while this land will be dedicated to Villains entirely (as far as we know), we’re not expecting this land to really be scary. If you’ve visited Darkmoor/Dark Universe in Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe park, we’re assuming it’ll be along the same vibes as that. The design will likely be slightly eerie, especially at night, but don’t expect jumpscares or spooky characters walking around. Just like Disney films, the Villains aren’t to be scary in a way that will shock your heart into ramping up, it’ll likely just be a darker style than we see elsewhere in Disney World.
