You’ll Never Guess Which Disney Movie Is Being Turned Into a Musical

Out of all the Disney animated movies to be turned into a musical, we didn’t expect it to be this one!

The global Disney animated hit, Zootopia, is getting a sequel in just a couple of months. However, there are also plans for the popular animated movie to get a musical. Let’s take a look at all the details!

It’s official, Disney Theatrical Productions is developing a new stage adaptation of the beloved film, Zootopia. There was an Equity audition notice listing a 90-minute musical version of the animated movie currently being prepared for a professional LORT production, with future plans for both professional and amateur licensing, according to Broadway World.

The audition posting included that the musical features a book by Sara Wordsworth, and the music and lyrics will be by Jaheem Toombs. The director of the show will be Connor Gallagher, with Ian Weinberger as the music supervisor.

It was posted that the Equity Principal Auditions will be held on Friday, September 19th, 2025, at the Ripley-Grier Studios in New York City. Currently, they are looking to cast characters including Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, Dawn Bellweather, and Chief Bogo.

The movie was released in 2016 and is now returning in 2025 with a big swing! Like we mentioned earlier, Disney will be continuing the story of Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps in the sequel, Zootopia 2. The movie will introduce new characters, thrilling adventures, and the introduction of reptiles in the world of Zootropolis. The movie is set to release on November 26th, 2025.

That’s not all the Zootopia we’ll be getting, as Disney is close to bringing its first-ever Zootopia attraction to Disney World this year. The new show, Zootopia: “Better Zoogether“, will debut at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on November 7th, 2025.

During the show, guests will be welcomed to celebrate Zoogether Day, a day to support unity among the diverse biomes across the city. There are tons of talented animals performing, which we’ll get to watch as a livestream watch party.

The live stream will include ice skating performances, a performance by Gazelle herself, and more! The new Zootopia show will be replacing the It’s Tough to Be a Bug show in the Tree of Life theater. It is always bittersweet to say goodbye to an attraction, but we are very excited for this new show.
