A new permit that was recently filed could make your next Disney World trip look DIFFERENT!

Disney World is no stranger to changes as of late, and it doesn’t seem like they’re in favor of slowing down anytime soon. We’ve seen updates recently for everything from ongoing hotel refurbishments to massive closures for upcoming planned expansions in the parks. And now Disney World’s already looking ahead at changes for an upcoming attraction we could start seeing evidence of in the park soon!
Walt Disney Imagineering just filed a permit for changes to Animal Kingdom’s iconic Tree of Life. This tree makes up the center focal point of the park and greets its visitors each morning with its enormous size and used to house an attraction in the bottom of the tree’s trunk, It’s Tough To Be A Bug.

Last year, during Disney’s D23 announcements, we learned more about how It’s Tough To Be A Bug would be closing to make way for a new attraction called Zootopia: Better Zoogether. This new show would occupy the same theater space the former A Bug’s Life-inspired show held, and would feature an array of familiar characters from the popular Zootopia films.

While it’s been a few months since the closure, all we’ve seen of the construction efforts thus far has been temporary walls that surround the entrance and exits from the theater around the Tree of Life. However, Disney’s recently filed permit may mark the first visible changes we’ll see of this upcoming show.

In the permit filed on July 30th, Walt Disney Imagineering notes plans to “install signage” and lists Jon Richards Company as the intended contractor. If that name sounds familiar, you might have heard this company associated with another recent changeover at another Disney World attraction with Test Track 3.0 in EPCOT.

It’s important to note that the permit doesn’t specifically mention the show by name; however, its location makes us sneakingly suspicious that we could see signs up for Animal Kingdom’s new Zootopia: Better Zoogether show soon.

This new show has been slated for an opening later this coming year, and with new permits being filed for potential visibility of visitor-facing areas, that makes us hopeful we could see more building on this sign update even sooner than we thought.
We’ll continue to track the construction progress of this new show, as well as other news and updates around Disney World. Be sure to stay tuned with us at AllEars as we bring them to you as they happen!
