With so much going on around Disney World, there are bound to be some upcoming projects you forget about. That’s why we’re here to help!

You might know that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad won’t be open again until 2026, that Villains Land is under construction, and that Astro Orbiter is currently in the process of being reassembled — and that’s all JUST in Magic Kingdom, but there’s one project you may have forgotten about that is located in Tomorrowland. Well, now here’s a reminder for us all, because Disney just filed a new permit for work on the attraction!
A new Notice of Commencement has just been filed for Walt Disney World Imagineering, and the scope of the work is written to be “electrical work” from Elite A/V Systems Inc. The address it’s taking place at is 1305 Monorail Way, Bay Lake, FL, 32830, but that probably means nothing to the average person. Well, sure enough, it’s the address for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom!

Yep, in case it may have slipped your mind, this attraction will be undergoing a pretty extensive refurbishment beginning in August 2025. The project will last until sometime in 2026, according to Disney. A brand-new scene is being added to the attraction, where a friendly robot named Buddy will greet you and play a key role on the Star Command team, and will help prep users for the new interactive portions of the game.

And that’s where we think a lot of the electrical work comes in! The ride will be getting new targets that light up and react when hit, and new handheld blasters will also be installed to give you a full range of motion. New lighting, sound, and vibration effects will be added to these blasters, as well as an “always on” laser to help you see where you’re shooting.

The ride vehicles are also getting a new look inspired by Buzz Lightyear and Star Command, and they’ll also have real-time monitors that will show you scoring updates as they happen! We’re really looking forward to the new changes, but we’re not thrilled that it means the ride will likely have to be closed for a while.
