A big change is coming to Disney World’s hotels, and we think we’re all going to love this one.

If you’ve ever found yourself caught up in the details of deciding whether or not Lightning Lane Multi Pass is for you and your family, if you should add on the Disney Dining Plan to your next vacation, or how many days you plan to spend inside Disney World’s theme and water parks, there’s a new change on the horizon that aims to make one aspect of choosing your Disney World hotel stay even simpler soon.
We’ve already got a lot to look forward to from our Disney World trips in 2026, and this next change might help take one of the biggest decisions you make about your trip even easier on you.

Disney World has literally dozens of hotel options to fit multiple budgets, levels of comfort and amenities, and more, so it’s easy to gather that one of the biggest headaches you might face when planning your vacation is which one of them will suit you best for your upcoming trip.

Let’s throw something else at you for good measure. Let’s say you’ve narrowed down your hotel choices and found the perfect one to fit your wants and needs, only to click to book the hotel stay or package and find that there are several room categories to choose from within the very hotel you just agonized over choosing. Inevitably, you’ve yet another decision to make before you can complete your booking.

Currently, you’ll see categories for rooms like standard room, preferred room, preferred pool view, fireworks view, garden view, and several others. Don’t you just wish it were simpler than this? If this has been your plea, it sounds like Disney World is ready to answer!

Disney just announced changes coming to hotel categories that will begin in 2026. This change aims to “simplify room categories and to improve Guests’ check-in experience.” As a result, this change will be adjusting the names of some room categories at Disney Moderate Resorts, which include Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort—French Quarter, and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort—Riverside.

So what’s changing? Moving forward, the main room categories will be Standard Room, Preferred Room, or a room with a king bed. Some Disney Moderate Resorts will continue to offer additional categories like the “Royal Guest Room” category at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort—Riverside.

This may make things much easier in the booking process for those who may be getting completely turned around in their decisions as they’re reserving their stays. Hopefully, these new categories will also cut down on the confusion of booking a standard room with a need for a king bed over a double queen accommodation, and having to put in a request for the king set up, as is the process currently. If you’re looking at booking a Disney World vacation in 2026, be sure to take extra care when booking your room, as the categories for those stays may look a bit different than what they do for current bookings through the end of this year.
If you’re looking for a travel agent to help with your vacation, we recommend our friends at Mouse Fan Travel. They’re experts in the field with over 20 years of vacation planning experience, and they can help take a bunch of the stress out of the entire booking process for you!
