Our Top Tips for Conquering Summer 2021 at Walt Disney World

With school vacations and more time off from work, summer has historically been a popular season for folks to visit Walt Disney World. It may be hard to believe, but we’re just a couple months away from heading into our second summer season since the parks have reopened!

Tree of Life

From hot temperatures to daily rain storms, summer is always a tricky season to plan for. But there are even MORE things to consider with the current health and safety guidelines in place in the parks.

What to bring:

Packing the right essentials can make or break a summer vacation to Disney World. Regardless of what year you travel, hydration will ALWAYS be key! Pack a reusable water bottle so you don’t have to shell out your vacation budget on bottled water.

There are several bottle refill stations in the Parks to make refilling your bottles simple.

When it comes to face masks, expect mandates to stay around through summer of 2021 and possibly into 2022. During the hot and rainy season, it’s extra important to make sure you pack extra face masks for everyone in your party. Consider having disposable ones that you won’t mind getting a little sweaty — simply toss them out and replace them with a fresh, clean one!

Also, the kind of face mask you use will be critical to your overall comfort. Make sure you know which face masks are the most comfortable on your face and pick a fabric that won’t cling to your skin as much.

Health and Safety Sign

Of course, rain gear is another summer essential when traveling to Disney World. Those ponchos are seriously overpriced in the parks and resorts, so buy cheaper ones ahead of time on Amazon.

Don’t forget about that sunscreen, either! Cooling towels are another great way to keep everyone comfortable on the hottest of Florida days.

Tips when in the parks:

Once you are actually in Disney World, there are a number of tips to keep in mind to conquer summer! This summer in particular, it will be really important to know where those Relaxation Stations are in each park. These are designated areas where guests are allowed to temporarily remove their face masks, have a sip of water, and relax. You can read up on where to locate Relaxation Stations in the parks here!

Be sure to take frequent water breaks, probably more than what you may be used to! There is no eating or drinking currently allowed in queue areas, so you’ll want to make sure everyone is properly hydrated before you get in that hour-long line for Splash Mountain.

Splash Mountain

Speaking of Splash Mountain…know where all the best places are to cool off! There are, of course, the water rides, but there are also longer indoor rides and attractions with plentiful air conditioning (especially in EPCOT…check out the American Adventure, Canada: Far and Wide, and Impressions de France!).

Like we mentioned before, you’ll want to make sure there are plenty of face masks in your suitcase. You’ll also want to make sure you’re packing enough face masks in your park bag every day! Expect to either sweat through a couple of masks per day, or be ready to swap them out if you get rained on. No one likes a wet face mask!

Other tips:

Outside of the park day essentials, there are a couple of additional insider tips you may not have considered. If possible, take a midday break from the parks entirely, and head back to your hotel room. There, you can freshen up, maybe jump in the pool for an hour, and rest up before the evening!

Midday breaks don’t have to be back in your hotel rooms; you could take a longer lunch break instead! Make your big meal of the day lunch instead of dinner. That way, you can escape the heat and have a little extra time with your face masks off. Just keep in mind Disney’s new face mask policy while dining at Table Service restaurants: you must keep your face masks on, even when seated at your table, until your food or drinks arrive.
