It’s the start of the Halloween season, and Disney is celebrating by dropping a lot of news about — Christmas?

That’s right! Today, Disney has announced that EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays will be happening, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and the Candlelight Processional won’t be happening, PLUS Cinderella Castle will get a temporary holiday glow-up. But, that’s not all, because Disney also announced that another favorite holiday tradition will be taking a break this year.
According to Disney, there will not be gingerbread house displays at the Disney World hotels this year.

Disney has confirmed that while the Disney Resort hotels will be getting their holiday decorations, complete with trees and festive decor, they will not be doing the gingerbread displays this year “due to physical distancing guidelines.”

While it’s a disappointing omission from the holiday season, there will still be plenty of festive cheer to look forward to at the Most Magical Place on Earth for Christmas this year! We’ll continue to keep you updated with any further developments.

The bean counters are at work. To blame it on social distancing is pure PR. It is a cost saving measure. Just like not having the dream lights on Cinderella Castle. Dream lights or projections are the same thing—but this year projections for Christmas are probably adaptions from Minnie’s Fireworks-nothing new–so minimal cost involved. Maybe not the Twilight Zone, but all of Disney World is rapidly becoming “Fantasyland.”
This is getting absolutely ridiculous. Did you ever think we’d see the day when Disney said, “We won’t be building the gingerbread houses this year because people have to stand too close to each other to look at them.” I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone.
But will they still be selling the Gingerbread shingles anywhere on property?
Since we can’t come to Disney = can we get via mail the ginger bread shingles or a house? They could make a lot of money by selling shingles via mail order. I usually buy 25-30 each year just for our family. Plus a couple houses. I hope we can continue the tradition this year.
