Remember that popular ride at Magic Kingdom that has been closed for MONTHS? Well, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is back once again, and it’s got a brand-new look!

We’re thrilled to say we can finally ride one of our favorite attractions again. The ride is back and better than ever, with new blasters, characters, targets, and a new scoring system. However, with all the new stuff to take in, it’s easy to miss the hidden secrets and easter eggs. Well, that’s what we’re here for!
When a ride reopens with a new overlay, it’s always so fun to experience the ride in a new way. As we mentioned, Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin has new blasters and targets, as well as a new character who’s here to help with your mission, named Buddy. Check out all of our new videos of the ride!

The ride has also introduced a brand-new scoring system. You can now score over 1 million points. The cutoff before was 999,999, due to the limitations of the counter, but now that it’s digital, the competition just got more intense.

There’s also a new screen in your ride vehicle that shows your score! We need to get a few more training sessions in before we hit Galactic Hero.

And for our first hack – these glowing dots at the bottom tell you what your rank is during the ride! Each symbol corresponds to a certain rank, with Star Flyer on the left and Galactic Hero on the right.

The other thing that comes with new ride overlays is hidden secrets and small easter eggs. They could be Disney references, they could be tricks, you never know what fun little thing Disney Imagineers add. We’re proud to say we found them!

The first hidden detail we noticed is that the ride vehicles are battery-powered! You zoom by the power center in the loading area. How else will our toy Star Command ships soar through the galaxy? This was there before the refurbishment, but we like it to show it out there.

A secret we want to share with you is that the targets light up now! They’ll turn red or green when player one or two hits the targets. And for a top secret hack – some targets give more points than others! If you see a flashing or white target, then you’ll get some bonus points. These are randomly placed throughout the ride.

Some shooting tips are the key to getting Galactic Hero. The ride has brand-new blasters that work a little bit differently. Use one hand to hold the trigger and one hand to steady it for the most accurate aim. Then hold down the trigger for more point opportunities, because it will keep shooting! This is going to be your best chance to score the most points.

And for the easter eggs – There’s a new character in the ride named Buddy. He’s a Star Command training bot that gets you ready to take down Zurg! But did you know that the man who created your favorite Toy Story characters was nicknamed Buddy? William “Bud” Luckey was a character designer for Toy Story who designed Woody! We loved this nod to the original Toy Story film.

Things just feel whole again, now that Buzz Lightyear is up and running at Magic Kingdom. A lot is coming to Disney World to look forward to, both this year and in the future. We’re going to be covering it all, so make sure to stay tuned to AllEars! The ride officially opens on April 8th, but right now, there are previews happening for Cast Members.
