“I Don’t Like This Ride and Never Have.” Disney Fans React to Popular Magic Kingdom Ride

If there’s one thing we know about Disney fans, it’s that we’re not afraid to share our honest opinions about the parks.

Jungle Cruise

Whether it’s about a classic attraction, a new snack, or a beloved character meet-and-greet, we’ve got thoughts. And when it comes to the Jungle Cruise at Magic Kingdom, those thoughts are definitely all over the map.

We recently received a review on our site that caught our attention, and honestly, it’s got us thinking. Wendi rated the Jungle Cruise a 4 out of 10 stars and shared,

“Hot take- I don’t like this ride and never have. The ride just isn’t worth the wait for some repetitive corny jokes with much more basic visuals/ animatronics.”

She listed “Chill ride” as a pro, but under cons? “Bad jokes, lame visuals.”

The World Famous Jungle Cruise

Okay, so let’s talk about it. The Jungle Cruise has been a Magic Kingdom staple since the park opened in 1971. It’s one of the original attractions that Walt Disney himself was involved in creating for Disneyland back in 1955. The ride takes you on a guided riverboat tour through tropical rivers filled with animatronic animals, ancient ruins, and a whole lot of dad jokes courtesy of your skipper. And those jokes? Well, they’re famously corny, which is kind of the whole point.

But here’s the thing. Not everyone vibes with the pun-heavy humor and slower pace of this classic attraction. If you’re expecting high-tech animatronics or thrilling moments, you might walk away feeling underwhelmed.

The Jungle Cruise Elephant Pool

The visuals are charming in a retro way, but they’re definitely not up to the standard of newer rides like Rise of the Resistance or Flight of Passage. For some guests, that’s part of the nostalgic appeal. For others, like Wendi, it just doesn’t hit the mark.

So, who is this ride actually for?

Jungle Cruise is perfect for families with young kids who want something low-key and funny. It’s also great for Disney history buffs who appreciate the original Imagineering magic.

Jungle Cruise Skipper

Plus, if you love a good groan-worthy pun, this is your jam. The skippers really do bring their own personality to each trip, so your experience can vary wildly depending on who’s steering the boat.

Who is it not for?

If you’re short on time, hate waiting in line for slower attractions, or prefer modern technology and immersive storytelling, you might want to skip it. The wait times can get pretty long, especially during peak hours, and if you’re not into the humor, it’s going to feel like a long seven minutes on that boat.

Anyone can ride Jungle Cruise

A few tips if you do decide to ride:

  • Try to go first thing in the morning or later in the evening when lines tend to be shorter.
  • Don’t be afraid to engage with your skipper. (The more energy you bring, the better the experience tends to be.)

At the end of the day, the Jungle Cruise isn’t for everyone, and that’s totally okay. Disney World has something for every type of guest, and part of the fun is figuring out what works for you.
