5 Life-Changing Announcements for Magic Kingdom in 2026

Magic Kingdom’s in for an interesting year, to say the least…

Cinderella Castle

It’s safe to say that 2025 was a chaotic year for Magic Kingdom. We saw long ride closures, construction walls everywhere, and promises of what’s to come in the years ahead. Well, 2026 should be one of those big years, as the park will feature several changes that will have MASSIVE impacts not only in 2026, but well into the future. Let’s look ahead at the previously-announced changes that will genuinely change how you plan your next trip.

From closures to reopenings to returning offerings, a lot is confirmed to be coming to Magic Kingdom this year. Let’s take a look!

Cinderella Castle Repainting

It was announced at last year’s Destination: D23 that the iconic Cinderella Castle is getting a new coat of paint! The castle was painted pink for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, but it’s going back to a classic color scheme with original gray, cream, blue, and gold tones.

The repainting is beginning in January 2026 and will wrap up later in the year. Fortunately, the cranes used to repaint the castle will be lowered and out of sight around noon each day, removing some major eyesores that would otherwise be present in your family photos.

Modifications Coming to Shows

Because work is being done on the castle, shows and spectaculars that regularly happen in the area are getting tweaked a bit this year.

Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire

Starting January 28th, 2026, Magic Kingdom will feature a modified version of the Let the Magic Begin show — the opening show in the morning in front of the castle. Additionally, Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire and the Happily Ever After fireworks spectacular will continue to happen at their designated times, albeit with minor adjustments.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad IS BACK

After a closure that’s lasted over a year, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is slated to reopen in the spring of 2026.

The ride will feature an updated story, a new, smoother track to enhance the ride experience, upgraded special effects, and new Rainbow Caverns that feature “phosphorescent pools, shimmering and illuminating iridescent stalagmites (the ones on the floor) and stalactites (the ones on the ceiling)”.

These new caverns won’t just be pretty to look at. They take a sinister turn as a “menacing rumble from deep within the mountain may be a sign that we ain’t welcome.”

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is Also Coming Back

Over in Tomorrowland, Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin is reopening in the spring with tons of upgraded features after a lengthy closure!

The latest version of the attraction will include a brand new training scene, enhanced targets, more interactive special effects, a new paint job on the ride vehicles, and handheld blasters with better aim!

The ride closed last August, so work will have been done for just under a year when it reopens to guests.

The Return of Characters to Early Entry

Disney World hotel guests should be especially excited about the return of character experiences during Early Theme Park Entry this summer!

Pooh and Tigger

Disney World’s hotels have a perk that lets guests get into the theme parks 30 minutes before opening, and — as part of the Cool Kids’ Summer celebration — characters will be scattered around Magic Kingdom.

Stitch!

From May 26th through September 8th, 2026, hotel guests can meet characters like Alice, Chip & Dale, Daisy, Donald, Goofy, Lilo, the Mad Hatter, Mary Poppins, Pooh, Pluto, Stitch, and Tigger!

Other Changes

Of course, with Piston Peak and Villains Land both under construction during the duration of 2026, we’ll see all that construction that started in 2025 bleed into 2026. Get ready for tons of construction walls and a lack of the Rivers of America. It may be jarring if you haven’t visited the park since the rivers were removed.

We’ll be looking forward to possible updates on both of those projects at some point this year.  The D23 fan expo being held in Anaheim later this year will surely reveal some MAJOR park news, so you’ll want to tune in when it takes place on August 14th, 15th, and 16th, 2026.

Of course, it’s still very early in 2026, and more changes will inevitably be coming to Magic Kingdom later this year. We’ll be visiting Disney World every day and keeping up with the latest updates, so keep it posted right here at AllEars to stay in the know!
