Despite what many outside Central Florida locals think, Walt Disney World does get cold in the winter.

Over the course of my 30+ years visiting the resort, including several times in November, December, and January, I can attest that the Orlando area does indeed get pretty chilly. So chilly in fact that guests avoid some of the resort’s most iconic rides.
During the colder months, wait times for Walt Disney World’s water rides, including Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, plunge (drop-pun fully intended), with some occasionally hitting the single digits.

Using the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure example, the attraction averaged a wait time of approximately 15 minutes during the early weeks of December 2025. That’s a more than 50% decrease from the attraction’s normal wait times, which average in the 35-45 minute zone throughout the rest of the year.

This cold weather will also affect Lightning Lane distribution. Once again, using Tiana’s Bayou Adventure as an example, the flume attraction is often one of the most in-demand for the “skip-the-line” service.
According to our data, over the last year, the ride was the fastest to “sell out” of Lightning Lanes in the Magic Kingdom each day, with all Multi Passes gone by 10:00 AM most days. However, as riders skip the ride due to the weather, its Lightning Lanes become more available, and those for other rides become less.
Of course, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure isn’t the only water-based attraction to be impacted by the weather. There’s also Kali River Rapids at Animal Kingdom, as well as the Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach water parks. In fact, Disney often closes the rapids and one of the water parks on an alternating basis during the winter months for their annual refurbishments, specifically because demand for water-based attractions is lower due to the cold weather.

Of course, some guests still wish to brave the water attractions during the cold. So, if you’re on that boat (again, pun intended), there is a Disney essential you can use to mitigate the effects: A FROGG TOGG PONCHO.

So, Frogg Toggs are probably our favorite ponchos for Disney World thanks to several features, including material that allows rain and water to slip right off. Additionally, thanks to said material and the lack of sleeves, we didn’t feel steamed or hot underneath. On top of that, the poncho was large enough that our backpack was able to fit underneath it comfortably, while still keeping our bag and our backs completely covered from being drenched.

If all that wasn’t enough, the poncho even comes with a waterproof storage bag, meaning we were able to quickly pack it up and throw it in our backpack as soon as the storm or ride ended without worrying about anything in there getting wet.
If you’re planning to take advantage of shorter wait times for water rides like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure during the coldest months, a poncho might be a lifesaver. Stay tuned to AllEars for more Disney tips!
