The Harsh Reality of Disney World Hotel Pools in 2026

Are you dreaming of that perfect Disney World trip? Alas, perfection remains a dream when unavoidable problems pop up at the resort.

Coronado Springs

Bad weather, large crowd levels, and ride refurbishments/closures (among several other issues) can throw a wrench in any Disney vacation. However, these issues aren’t limited to just the Disney Parks — they can also occur at the hotels. In fact, if you plan on using your Disney World hotel pool in 2026, here are some harsh realities you’ll need to confront. But even though the truth of the matter is that some issues are unavoidable, we’re here to help!!

Pool Closures

Unfortunately, pool closures are on the schedule in 2026. In fact, two pool refurbishments have already been announced, and a third could also happen in 2026.

Bay Lake Tower

Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort will be closing the Surfboard Bay Pool & Kiddie Pool from January to late April 2026, during which time “the Grand Slam Leisure Pool at Disney’s All-Star Sports will continue to be available. Additionally, Guests are welcome to use the other pools throughout Disney’s All-Star Resorts, including the Calypso Pool, Piano Pool and kiddie pool at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort; and the Fantasia Pool, Duck Pond Pool and kiddie pool at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort.”

All-Star Sports Pool

Over to Disney’s Contemporary Resort, the Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower will be closed from January 26th to early May 2026. Additionally, the Cove Bar, the water play area, and the whirlpool spa at Bay Lake Tower will also be closed. However, the Bay Lake Pool, the feature pool, the water play area, and the whirlpool spa at the Contemporary will remain open for guests during this refurbishment.

Although a date has not been confirmed as of this writing, the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool area at the Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground will close at some point in 2026 as it gives way to an expansion that will add a  “brand-new zero-entry pool and deck area.” The area will also receive “a tennis court and two pickleball courts,” which will add to the recreational activities offered in this area.

More pool closures may happen in 2026, and we’ll keep you posted as soon as they’re confirmed.

Aggressive Guests

You might be on vacation, but not every Disney guest is going to approach each activity with relaxation and calmness. Unfortunately, the reality is that pools are often deceptively packed with stressful situations.

Big Blue Pool

One issue you’ll likely run into is people claiming towels and chairs, and sometimes that territorial behavior doesn’t exactly give off those Disney/family-friendly vibes.

This sort of territorial behavior gets especially worse around the main pools, and if your hotel has some pool closures, get ready for this issue to magnify. If that’s not the case, we recommend seeking out smaller and quieter pools. If you run into any issues remember that Cast Members are there to help! These situations are rare, but we like to remind people that not everyone is a happy camper, even at Disney.

Limited Swimming Opportunities

Let’s face it — most of your Disney days will be spent at the Parks. But if you come back to your hotel after a long day, looking to get in some night swimming, you will need to face some limitations.

Cove Pool

Disney World hotel pools often remain open until either 10 PM or 11 PM (depending on the season), and for most, that gives you an ample amount of time to swim. But if you’re coming back after a theme park closes, you simply won’t have enough time to swim (unless you’re coming from Animal Kingdom).

Additionally, if you’re trying to avoid crowds and actually have room to get a lap or two in, the only ideal hours to go swimming are when it’s too cold or too hot. It’s tough to have your cake and eat it too.

Using the hotel pool requires a bit of planning, but if you map out your Park days, consider closures, and check out our advice year-round, you can certainly have a great time at the pool!
