REVIEW: We Never Thought We’d Be Obsessed With a Salmon Corn Dog in Disney World, but Here We Are

Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs is one of our favorite spots on Disney’s BoardWalk, not only for its classic corn dogs that rarely let us down, but also for the special menu options that arrive every now and then.

A Salmon Dog? Well…

They recently introduced a new dessert, the Fried Hawaiian Roll on a stick, which is unfortunately off the menu now (PLEASE COME BACK), and has been replaced with something that’s the furthest thing from a dessert. Is the spot’s new Salmon Dog worth a visit? We know, it sounds scary, but we’ll be honest — it REALLY surprised us!

The new Salmon Dog is $18, and is salmon and cream cheese fried in tempura batter, drizzled with Sriracha mayo and unagi sauce, topped with sesame seeds, and then served with a bag of chips.

Salmon Dog

We’re still partially deciding how we feel about this. It was definitely better than we were expecting! The salmon is cooked and deep-fried with a chunk of cream cheese — we would say the ratio is about 2/3 salmon (it’s a BIG piece!) and 1/3 cream cheese. The salmon isn’t seasoned or anything, and it is a bit bland without getting a bite with the sauces. The way it was cooked was a bit dry, but the cream cheese and sauces fixed the issue. The unagi sauce is like a thicker, sweeter soy sauce, while the Sriracha Mayo has the creaminess and a hint of spice from the Sriracha, but it isn’t really spicy at all. There is also a dusting of sesame seeds that adds a nice texture and a bit of sesame flavor.

Salmon Dog!

The cream cheese inside is also plain, but since it was deep-fried, it’s kind of ooey. The batter is light and crispy and not thick at all, but surprisingly held up to the salmon and cream cheese for the most part. It was a big soggy after we had taken so many photos, but that’s an us thing — it’s likely very crispy if you eat it right when you get it. We were SUPER hungry, so we ate the whole thing, and we really appreciated that the salmon was cooked — originally from the video we saw, we thought it was going to be more raw. Salmon and cream cheese are a winning combo, and the sauces on top were perfect for the “dog.” It’s a great option if you like salmon, but if you’re at all adverse to the taste, we say stay FAR away.

That’s a lot of salmon!
