The 3 Worst Things We Ate in Disney World This Month

We’re in Disney World every single day, and that means we’re also EATING in Disney World every day! Any and all menu updates are closely watched by our team, so we can try it all to tell you if it’s worth your time and money.

Mickey Waffles at Chef Mickey’s

This past month, we’ve eaten at over 20 different Disney World locations and given you our honest reviews to help you plan for your upcoming vacations. While we’ve had some pretty great meals and snacks, we’ve also had some that we 100% would NOT get again, and we don’t recommend you grab, either. In fact, these are the THREE worst things we ate in Disney World this month, and what we’d recommend you grab instead.

Now this first one we feel may ruffle some feathers, but we’re just being honest — the breakfast at Chef Mickey’s is one of the most iconic and sought-after reservations in all of Disney World…but we just DO NOT see the hype.

Specifically, we do not recommend picking up the Steak and Egg Scramble at the buffet. When we just had it, this had some very small pieces of tough steak that were difficult to chew. It was well done to the point of being TOO done, and there was hardly any seasoning. While the eggs were fluffy, they were also pretty bland, so we wouldn’t grab this again.

Additionally, there are a lot of sweet items on this buffet menu, but we’d recommend staying away from the Turtle French Toast, as much as it pains us to say that. The buffet has French toast, and then you can add chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, and nuts. We’re sad to say though that the French toast was so overdone and tough that we couldn’t even slice it with our fork. While the flavor was decent, we couldn’t get past the texture. It’s possible it was just a bad batch, but it was a rough enough experience that we won’t be grabbing for it again any time soon.

Thankfully, since this is a buffet, there are some options on here that we think are worlds better and will leave you humming happily as you eat. On the savory side, the Deviled Eggs here are surprisingly good, with a filling that was whipped beautifully and very light. Since they’re on the milder side, we also feel that most people who like eggs will enjoy them.

For those who love sweet things, but don’t want something TOO sweet, the Croissant Beignets are a solid pastry that rarely let us down — they’re light, fluffy, and we love the fruit sauces you can dip them in.

We also can’t forget to shoutout the Warm Sticky Cinnamon Rolls from the dessert bar (but hey, who doesn’t love cinnamon rolls for breakfast?) — they’re ooey, gooey, and the cream cheese flavor coming through from the frosting was INCREDIBLE. It may be our favorite thing on the menu here!

Finally, we can’t forget the classic Mickey Waffles. They’re basic, but you can add on syrup and butter, and make it a great way to start your morning. Want to read our full recent review from this popular spot? Check out our post below!

REVIEW: We’re Back at Chef Mickey’s in Disney World…And We Still Don’t LOVE It

Our third worst thing we ate this month came from Turtle Shack Poolside Snacks, which is one of the pool bars located at Disney’s Old Key West Resort. This spot is usually open from 11:30 AM to 5:30 PM every day, but we have to say that the Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich left a lot to be desired.

The chicken had a good flavor, but it was very dry, which made it hard to eat. It also had provolone cheese on it, but you couldn’t taste it at all, which could have had something to do with the fact that the cheese was so melted to the point that it was hard and shriveled (ew). We did like the brioche bun, though…but that was about it.

If you’re looking for a better option at Old Key West Resort, we’d honestly recommend going to Good’s Food To Go, which is another quick service spot.

We absolutely love the Loaded Nachos, and the Key Lime Soft Serve here is a must-grab, especially on hot summer days. The menu is pretty large, meaning that everyone should be able to find something they’ll enjoy on it. We’ve rarely been disappointed by anything here, so it’s a high recommendation from us!

So many great options!

  1. Goods to go is a tough place for celiacs. There is great risk of gluten cross contamination. It is our home resort and I have often wished they could expand the service there a little.
