REVIEW: There’s a Reason These Super Specific Fries Are So Popular in Disney World

Here at AllEars, we’re suckers for some French fries.

Hello, beautiful french friesssss

Disney World has recently been loading up the restaurant menus with various versions of loaded fries, and we are HERE for it. But you know, there’s one French fry dish that has always had our hearts, and it’s over at Mr. Kamal’s in Animal Kingdom. Recently, we stopped by to do a full review!

Background

Mr. Kamal’s is a small snack stand located in the Asia section of the park, and it’s known primarily for its incredible seasoned fries.

Now, these fries have seen some changes over the years. The version most fans remember is a pre-pandemic offering, where you could order the seasoned fries and then stop at the sauce station to serve yourself up to four different dipping sauces for your taters. After the stand reopened in 2020, the sauces were pre-poured and limited to two flavors.

But now? The fries are only served with ONE sauce, a Sriracha Mayonnaise. We mourn the loss of the sauces past, but could this dish still be worth snagging? We’re here to let you know.

Here’s what you need to know about dining at this restaurant.

Atmosphere

Mr. Kamal’s is located near the Feathered Friends in Flight theater, across from Caravan Road and Warung Outpost. It’s a small spot with only two food items and a handful of beverages, but it’s still home to one of the park’s most popular snacks.

Menu

There are a few options for seating around here, starting with Upcountry Landing. This pavilion has several tables and a lovely view of the Discovery River.

You could also take the hidden path behind Caravan Road to find this smaller seating area. It’s usually quieter and private.

And then of course, there are a few high-top tables with a spectacular view right next to the snack stand. These can be hard to snag during busy times of day.

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

First up, we grabbed the Mr. Kamal’s Seasoned Fries for $6.40. These are French fries covered in seasonings and served with a side of sriracha mayonnaise.

The FRIES

We found these to be fairly crispy on the edges and chewy on the inside. They were a little bit chewier than we remembered from last time — kind of like regular Disney quick service fries but a bit tougher.

Seasoned Fries

The flavors that really come through are a hint of spice and a bit of earthiness in the seasonings. The sauce tasted more like a true aioli than a mayonnaise, and it was creamy with a little bit of tangy flavor on the back end. It was surprisingly not spicy at all.

The sauce!

We also snagged the Chicken Dumplings for $6.79. These are served with ponzu for dipping.

Chicken Dumplings

These were incredibly crispy on the outside, and it caught us off guard a little, but we loved it because it contrasted with the chewy, slightly tough filling. The chicken was mild and needed a bit more salt, but the green onion came through nicely with tartness.

Inside the dumplings

The salt in the ponzu really helped fulfill the need for that flavor in this dish, so don’t skip the dipping!

Magic or Tragic?

This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • You’re a French fry connoisseur. These are some of the most popular fries in Disney World, so you’ll definitely want to see how they stack up.
  • You want a quick grab-and-go savory snack while walking through Animal Kingdom. It’s easy to walk up, grab your savory, salty treat, and walk with it to your next destination. Very convenient!

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

  • You’re particularly hungry. The portions are snack-sized and not meant to be a full meal.
  • You have picky eaters. These are a bit more adventurous overall when it comes to the snacks in the parks, so save this for those who want something fun and unique.
