Another Animal Kingdom Attraction Has Permanently Closed for Tropical Americas Transformation

Closure after closure — another one is hitting Disney World!

Animal Kingdom

It has been a year of closures at Disney World this year, from Tom Sawyer Island to the Liberty Belle Riverboat. Now, another Disney World attraction has officially closed in Animal Kingdom…permanently!

One of the big projects that will be coming to Disney World in a few years is the transformation of DinoLand U.S.A. into the Tropical Americas-themed Pueblo Esperanza at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The land has been slowly closing parts of it one at a time, and now they’ve officially closed another piece.

The Boneyard

The popular playground, The Boneyard, has permanently closed as of September 2nd. Unfortunately, that means the kiddos won’t be crossing the rope bridges, climbing through mysterious caves, and hurtling down twisting slides any longer. The playground was a great go-to spot for kids 10 and under to let out some energy and explore. You can see the walls have been put up now!

The Boneyard has been closed!

We knew this closure was coming, but it’s also hard to say goodbye to a beloved attraction. The Boneyard has delivered years of fun for little ones.

Walls are up!

Along with the Boneyard, the Dig Site has also been closed. This was a fun area for kids to explore the world of paleontology and dig up dinosaur bones themselves.

Closures are underway

So, with how popular the playground was, will there be another place for kids to play in this new land? The answer is an exciting YES! Disney has confirmed that we can expect a NEW play area to be built within Pueblo Esperanza, which will provide little ones with the same opportunity to burn some of that extra energy.

Tropical Americas

This is just another step to the big closure we’re all sadly anticipating, the closure of Dinosaur. The fan favorite attraction, Dinosaur, will officially be closing on February 2nd, 2025. It will close along with The Dino Institute Shop, Restaurantosaurus, and Restaurantosaurus Lounge. The last day to experience it all will be February 1st, 2026.

Dinosaur

As hard as it is to say goodbye to Dinoland one piece at a time, we can’t wait to see what this new Tropical Americas will look like. It’s going to feature an amazing dining experience and two E-Ticket attractions — one themed to Encanto, and the other to Indiana Jones.
