FULL REVIEW: Everything We Ate at Flavors of Florida in Disney World

It’s time for another food festival. No, we’re not talking about the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival…that doesn’t start until August.

Flavors of Florida

We’re talking about Flavors of Florida, which is happening through August 10th. During this time, Disney Springs restaurants come up with new food and drinks inspired by Florida. We’re kicking off the festival by trying everything we can, so join us for our full review of Flavors of Florida.

Gideon’s Bakehouse

We kicked off Flavors of Florida by heading to Gideon’s Bakehouse and trying the Lemon Cold Brew, which is a unique blend of locally roasted coffee beans and house-made lemonade. A small is $6.50. We weren’t sure about this, but we were pleasantly surprised. The lemonade isn’t so prevalent that it takes over the drink. The coffee has that nice bitterness, but the lemonade doesn’t make it sour — it’s more of a sweet lemon flavor.

Lemon Cold Brew

Of course, we can’t go to Gideon’s without picking up a sweet treat, so we also picked up the Key Lime Ice Box Pie for $10, a Key lime ice box pie with layers of Key lime curd and a Key lime cream filling with a graham cracker crust. You’ll want to eat it quickly because it doesn’t like the heat.

However, it’s very light and airy and has a great Key lime flavor that’s both tart and sweet. The crust is sweet and a little crunchy, so you also have a nice texture. We only wish there were more filling.

Chicken Guy!

Over at Chicken Guy!, you can pick up a Key Lime Shake for $6.99, which is made with Creamy vanilla ice cream blended with Key lime custard and graham cracker crumbs, topped with whipped cream. The Key lime is sweeter than tart, and we like how the custard is whipped into the ice cream.

Key Lime Shake

The graham cracker crumbs add a nice texture.  We would order this again, and we think it’s something even picky eaters would appreciate.

Earl of Sandwich

At Earl of Sandwich, we ordered Earl’s Big Flounder Sandwich for $10.99, made with lightly breaded flounder fillets, tartar sauce, and dill pickles, and topped with Earl’s signature coleslaw. First, we weren’t big fans of the breading — it wasn’t like beer-battered, but just a thin breading, similar to fish sticks. There is a lot of flavor going on with the pickles and the coleslaw. There is a LOT of coleslaw, though.

The Key Lime Cheesecake Danish for $9.99 is an oven-baked pastry with a light, Key lime cheesecake filling. It’s so buttery and flaky and has a slight honey glaze on top. Then you’ve got this cheesecake filling that’s almost like a whipped texture.

There’s also powdered sugar on top. The Key lime flavor is mild, but just enough to add to this treat.

D-Luxe Burger

You’ll also find a Flavors of Florida offering at D-Luxe Burger with The Glowing Oak Burger for $15.49 made with two signature-blend, pressed, beef patties topped with pimento cheese, fried green tomato, bacon, and jalapeno jam—served on a cheddar-chive biscuit. There is a lot going on here, but it somehow all works.

The Glowing Oak Burger

You’ve got a buttery and flaky biscuit, two thin burger patties that are flavorful and juicy, a sweet and vinegary jalapeño jam, fatty bacon, and a nice, lightly battered fried green tomato. This is the epitome of a Southern burger. It’s also very filling, so if you order fries with it, you could probably feed two people.

Amorette’s Patisserie

Amorette’s has the Orange Mousse for $8, which is Orange mousse layered with orange jam, citrus chiffon, and a Grand Marnier-soaked hazelnut financier. The orange mousse tastes like a Dreamsicle coated in chocolate. Then the marmalade adds more flavor, along with the fluffy and moist cake. It’s a light and sweet orange flavor, though, with very little tartness.

Orange Mousse

We weren’t sure we liked the Jello-like texture of the mousse, though. The hazelnut flavor didn’t go well with all that orange, though. We’re giving this an A+ for presentation, though.

The Coca-Cola Rooftop Beverage Bar

You can get the Tangy Watermelon Sunrise for $12.50 at The Coca-Cola Rooftop Beverage Bar. This non-alcoholic drink is made with Minute Maid Lemonade, watermelon purée, and chamoy sauce and topped with a Simply Lemonade and pickle juice foam. First, this drink is spicy, tangy, and will make your lips pucker, and we mean all of that in a good way.

Tangy Watermelon Sunrise

The watermelon is that Jolly Rancher kind of flavor, but it’s subtle. But if you’re averse to spiciness, we’d warn you to stay away.

eet by Maneet Chauhan

We walked over to eet by Maneet Chauhan to check out a new drink there, Hank’s Gulf Coast Sunset for $15.95, made with vodka, orange juice, candied orange syrup, and a splash of grenadine. First, we are obsessed with this little guy that sits on top of the drink, but you can actually choose from a few different ones.

The cutest drink award goes to…

The drink itself tastes like an alcoholic orange Dreamsicle. It’s sweet with a strong orange juice flavor, but the vodka does add a sharpness to it. It’s pretty strong, though, so keep that in mind.

Sunshine Churros

Finally, we headed over to Sunshine Churros to get the Orange Jelly Churro Donut: A churro donut shaken in sugar, topped with orange marmalade jelly, a dollop of whipped cream, and an edible orange gummy slice. This is basically a round churro filled with orange marmalade with some whipped cream and a gummy orange.

Orange Jelly Churro Donut

The churro, though, was crispy and sugary on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Honestly, this is one of the few places in Disney World where you can get a good churro. They’re made fresh here, and that’s the difference. The orange marmalade flavor really worked with the churro flavors, too. Even the gummy tasted fresh.

Summer House on the Lake

First off, we grabbed the St. Augustine Strawberry Refresher for $17. It was a bright, tropical blend of Florida cane sugar vodka, Aperol, lime juice, pineapple juice, and strawberry purée. You could definitely taste that lime and pineapple flavor in the drink at the beginning. It’s like a zesty sour kick to the drink. You get the Aperol and strawberry flavor at the backend of the drink.

Strawberry Refresher!

For food, we started with the ‘Devil Crab’ Croquette for $15.95. The appetizer is flavorful deviled crab cakes made with sweet, flaky blue crab and topped with a bright, garlicky mojo aioli. One side of the crab is still hard-shelled, and the belly is really soft. It’s also got that aioli sauce to dip it into, so perfect for those who like eating this with sauce.

Crab Cakes!

For our main dish, we got the ‘8th Street Frita’ Burger with truffle fries for $17.95. It’s a new take on a classic made with prime beef chorizo and served with crispy potatoes and salsa de tomate. This burger was interesting, to put it one way. It’s like a handmade ground beef burger patty, but they call it a beef chorizo. We didn’t get that, it tasted more like a charred burger — almost like a hamburger steak feel to it.

This was so good!

The tomato salsa gave the sandwich a chipotle vibe in a way. We thought the sandwich was really good, and it gave us a sense that we had tasted something like it before. There are also cut-up onions at the bottom of the burger. The sandwich was just phenomenal, and our favorite out of what we got during this visit.

We’ve enjoyed making our way around Disney Springs to try Flavor of Florida food and drinks, and we’ll be back with more food and drink reviews later, so check back with AllEars again soon for more.
