Former Disney Cast Member Reveals the Secrets Behind Being “That Guy” at Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor

We’re letting you in on the secret of how to become the “star” of a super popular Magic Kingdom show!

Over in Tomorrowland, Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor is a gem of an interactive show that provides a unique experience each visit. In fact, the show always selects a random man who inadvertently becomes the butt of a series of jokes throughout the experience. If you’ve ever wanted to become “That Guy”, we’re letting you in on a few tips that will help you do just that!

Laugh Floor shows guests the power of laughter in an engaging and interactive adventure inspired by Disney-Pixar’s Monsters, Inc., as they match wits with the one-eyed hero Mike Wazowski and his friends.

The show stays unique as characters interact live with the audience. They even read jokes written by the humans! Laugh Floor uses technology similar to Turtle Talk with Crush — so that characters can “see” the audience — including an overhead camera that finds an audience member to “pick on”.

Several cameras spotlight folks on the big screens at the front of the theater with silly captions underneath. One camera finds an adult male — known as “That Guy” — who then becomes the object of several running jokes for the remainder of the show.

While it can be a tad embarrassing, being “That Guy” is a huge honor, generating tons of laughs. If you’ve ever wanted to be “That Guy”, several former Cast Members on the AllEars team are sharing some tips!

First and foremost, the monsters are looking to target adult males, so if you don’t fit that description, you’ll probably be out of luck.

Another huge boost is if you look like a dad. If you’re naturally angry-looking or bald, that’s worth some major points on the laugh floor and greatly increases your chances of getting selected!

Another tip would be to visit at the end of the night when the crowds are lower. This tip makes a lot of sense — go when the competition is lower.

On the flipside, if you don’t want to be selected, this is one of those times when experiencing something with high demand works in your favor.

All in all, like other attractions and experiences at Disney World that use cameras to select random participants for special experiences, getting selected can be a crapshoot. 

Sure, you can definitely increase your chances, but we can never guarantee that you’ll be “That Guy”. You’ll just have to keep visiting over and over again until your dream comes true!
