While Disney World recently stopped using virtual queues for its attractions — at least for now, but we have a feeling they might return when the next new attraction opens — it seems that virtual queues are appearing in an unlikely place.

Disney Cruise Line recently tested a virtual queue for certain experiences, including the AquaMouse and meeting certain characters. Guests could utilize the Navigator app to reserve a time for certain experiences.
Disney Cruise Line told us that the testing was only on the April 21st sailing of the Disney Wish and that it was only a test. We don’t know yet if they will be doing more testing or if virtual queues will be introduced to more sailings and ships.

While Disney has done away with virtual queues at Disney World for now, maybe they are targeting the cruise ships as the next spot for these queues? With the virtual queue, guests can reserve a time or join a queue to experience certain attractions. These are usually some of the more popular experiences and the virtual queue seeks to help alleviate some of the longer lines. We don’t know exactly how the virtual queue would work onboard the cruise ship, though.

Some people love utilizing virtual queues for shorter wait times, while others dislike that you have to worry about joining, and there is no guarantee you will get a spot. While virtual queues can help manage crowds and lines, they take away much of your flexibility. As well, cruises are meant to be a time to relax and unwind, and needing to join virtual queues to experience things onboard is not ideal for that relaxation.

However, virtual queues can help alleviate long wait times. Callbacks can be adjusted so lines remain manageable, and you don’t have to wait hours for an experience. We will be curious to see if virtual queues start to make more appearances onboard the Disney Cruise Line and if they officially roll out to the cruise ships. Of course, we will keep you updated as we learn more about virtual queues onboard Disney Cruise Line!
