We’re getting closer to a new Cars Land opening at Disney World, and we just got news on construction.

Rivers of America

Here at AllEars, we’ve been monitoring any permits coming to Disney, and this one is a big step in the right direction.

Disney Vacation Planner

Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a permit to install trailers behind the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, which will be turned into a Cars area.

Rivers of America

This new Cars-themed area was announced during the D23 Parks and Experience Panel in 2024, where they said Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island would become “vast and rugged terrains for a rally race.”

Coming to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom, a new area themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Cars” will leave Radiator Springs and head to the wilderness with two new attractions including an off-road race.

Two attractions, brand-new for Disney World and not replicas of the attractions currently at Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Park, will be coming to this area.

Construction is planned to start in 2025, so adding these trailers means Disney intends to start soon. While this might sound small, it’s usually how Disney starts their projects, so it’s only good news.

  1. Hopefully they decided to keep a section of the river that stretches from Haunted Mansion to Country Bears

  2. Correction, it’s only bad news. The demolition of Rivers of America signifies the downfall of Disney World. This is the absolute worst decision they have ever made.

  3. I don’t believe this is a good idea, especially as the Cars franchise has been losing value over the last decade, but since its going to happen no matter what I think I am glad they have gotten the permits so that we can rip this band aid (Walt’s vision) off and start construction ASAP.
