Disney’s Animal Kingdom is home to so many different animals and species.

While Animal Kingdom may be turning 27 this year, some animals have lived in the park since its opening day and are actually older than the park itself. Recently, Animal Kingdom celebrated a huge milestone for one of its opening-day animals.

Viviana, who is a hippo that you can see when you ride Kilimanjaro Safaris, just celebrated her 50th birthday! She has called Animal Kingdom her home since it opened on Earth Day in 1998.

She celebrated in style, and she even got a special birthday “cake,” which was made by the Animal Nutrition team at Animal Kingdom. The cake featured some of her favorite foods, like sweet watermelon.

Did you know that hippos can actually crunch an entire watermelon in one bite? Look how cute Viviana is getting to eat her special birthday treat!

Viviana likes to spend her days relaxing in the different pools on the safari as well as spending time with her fellow hippo friends, Tuma, Tequila, and Ramona.

The next time you are in Animal Kingdom, make sure to ride Kilimanjaro Safaris to wish Viviana a very happy birthday!

Animal Kingdom recently welcomed some new animals into the park. Mae, one of Animal Kingdom’s Asian small-clawed otters, welcomed a litter of otter pups into the world. They are currently backstage with Mae and their dad, Kevin. Once they are ready to be on stage, you will be able to find them on Discovery Island.
