Magic Kingdom is the park most people think of first when they think of Disney World. That’s mostly due to the fact that it was the first park on Disney World property and Cinderella Castle is arguably the most iconic park icon of them all.

However, it’s also due to the fact that there are some of the most nostalgic Disney World rides in this park. Since its opening in 1971, many additional attractions have been added, and until Villains Land opens in the coming years, the addition of New Fantasyland is the largest expansion the park has ever seen. It practically doubled the size of Fantasyland when it opened in late 2012. Not only did it add the new Be Our Guest table service restaurant, Storybook Circus, and multiple new attractions for kiddos, but it also brought Seven Dwarfs Mine Train to guests, which was a game changer. At the time of its opening, it was the hot ticket item in the park, but we have to admit, we’re confused why this almost 11-year-old attraction is STILL as popular as it is.
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is an exciting family-friendly coaster that was the first of its kind. The barrels guests sit in to ride swing back and forth freely with the movement of the attraction, which had never seen before. The ride brings you through the mine with the seven dwarfs themselves and ends with you getting to see Snow White dancing with them all in the cottage.

Now that over a decade has passed, the ride system certainly isn’t as much of a marvel as it once was, but we have to give credit where credit is due — it doesn’t go down nearly as much as we see other attractions do, and it’s a fun ride for kids and adults of all ages.

However, there are plenty of other more thrilling attractions in the park that are also simultaneously friendly for younger travelers, such as Space Mountain, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and, once it opens again, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. All of those attractions don’t often see nearly as long of lines as this coaster does, so what’s the deal?

As it currently stands, the average wait times for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in 2025 is 65 minutes. Terrible? No, of course not, we see much worse on a daily basis, but what makes this ride so special all these years after its opening? Is it the theming? Is it the unique ride system? Whatever the reason, there are still many guests who choose to rope drop Seven Dwarfs Mine Train rather than other attractions like Space Mountain, Peter Pan’s Flight, or TRON Lightcycle / Run.

Not to mention that this ride is MUCH shorter than most people expected it to be, and many first time visitors find themselves disappointed after they’ve waited over an hour for a three minute attraction. In comparison, Space Mountain is also three minutes, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is ten minutes, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is around three minutes as well. That’s a big reason why we don’t recommend waiting longer than 30-40 minutes for this attraction, which is the same recommendation we give for Big Thunder and Space Mountain — with such short ride times, you don’t want to feel disappointed after you’ve spent so much time in line.

We’ll be very curious to see how the average wait time for this attraction changes when the new Cars-themed land in Frontierland opens up, as well as the new Villains Land coming behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. In the meantime, stay tuned to AllEars for all the latest Disney World news!

What are your thoughts on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train? Tell us in the comments!
The easy answer is people are waiting 65 minutes now because its not the two hour wait that it used to be!
The longer answer is it is a coaster that is more kid-friendly for preschoolers than Big Thunder and certainly Tron and Space Mountain, especially considering the latter is in the dark and with each rider given their own row. It is a good transition between a kiddie coaster and the more thrilling ones, so it makes for a good starting point to see if you kids are ready to put the kiddie coaster behind them.
