If you’re in Disney World today, September 7th, or have an upcoming vacation, we have to warn you about a common problem.

It’s no secret that sometimes Disney World rides close. If there’s bad weather in the area, outdoor rides will close to keep guests safe, and other times, rides just have technical issues that will shut things down for a bit of time. If you’re in Magic Kingdom right now, all we have is…we’re so sorry.
Let’s just say Magic Kingdom had a ROUGH start this morning. It’s not uncommon to see a ride down in the morning or to go down within the first few hours of the day, but September 7th was extra brutal for one big reason.

This morning, MULTIPLE BIG RIDES were down in Magic Kingdom. We’re talking some of the BIGGEST attractions, all closed at the same time!

Three of the largest rides in the park were down, which also happened to be all of the roller coasters in the park (YIKES). Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, AND Seven Dwarfs Mine Train were all closed. According to a Cast Member, the closures were unrelated; it was just an unfortunate coincidence.

As of 11AM, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was STILL closed, but the other two had reopened. So what should you do when something like this happens to you? This is why we say it’s important to have multiple backup plans so that if your first ride is down, you have one (or more!) to head to instead!

Now, if you have a Lightning Lane (skip the line) reservation and it closes during that time, you’ll receive and experience redemption that you can redeem at any time during the rest of the day. This is also why we don’t recommend waiting until the end of the day to ride a ride you were really looking forward to experiencing. You might miss out altogether!
