We may be heading into the summer months, but here at AllEars, we’re already excited for the Halloween season!

Halloween Time starts in August this year at the Disneyland Resort, and we can’t wait! The seasonal event offers ride overlays, special theming, limited-time entertainment, Halloween merch and snacks, and much more. Halloween Time at Disneyland is a blast, and we can’t wait to share with you the Halloween updates Disney just dropped!
Halloween Time at Disneyland will take place from August 23rd through October 31st, 2024, and Disney just gave us some massive updates about returning entertainment, special dining opportunities, new Halloween merchandise, Disney character changes, ride overlays, seasonal décor, and Disney California Adventure’s iconic Halloween party.

The first announcement is about the return of the Haunted Mansion! Disney confirmed that the ride will reopen while work on the new queue and gift shop continues this fall. Not only that, but the attraction will open with its incredibly popular Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay, featuring theming from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Once open, the ride can be accessed via a virtual queue, which is expected to be temporary. We’ll keep you updated when more information is released.

Mickey and Minnie are also joining the makeover fun with new Halloween-themed outfits!

Disney announced that Mickey and his pals will be getting new festive attire featuring skeleton inspirations and colorful patchwork patterns in addition to new photo opportunities.

Sticking with Mickey, Mickey’s Trick and Treat show will be available as a daily offering for the first time ever! According to an official release by Disney, the interactive show “encourages younger guests to join in a not-so-spooky sing and dance along with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse at the Disney Theater in Disney California Adventure Park. With colorful projections and a lively host dressed as a mad scientist, it’s a happy haunting you’ll not soon forget!”

Mickey’s Trick an Treat isn’t the only returning entertainment — the nighttime spectacular Halloween Screams will feature special projections and other spooky special effects viewable from in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, “it’s a small world” facade, Rivers of America, and along Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland Park. Fireworks will accompany the show on select evenings.

Along with the return of fan-favorite decorations like the Mickey Pumpkin at Disneyland Park and the Headless Horseman at Disney California Adventure, Disney confirmed Halloween theming will extend to Downtown Disney and the hotels as well.

Over at Cars Land in Disney California Adventure, Haul-O-Ween is making a return with Cars-themed Halloween decorations and holiday overlays for Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree and Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters. The attractions will temporarily become Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree and Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween, respectively, with Halloween aesthetics and new soundtracks.

Staying in Disney California Adventure, Avengers Campus will also see a change with the Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! ride. Once again, this attraction will experience a holiday overlay called Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark, where riders are tasked by Rocket to distract monsters on the loose in the Collector’s Fortress while he searches for Groot.

In addition to themed snacks that can be found all over the Disneyland Resort, Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel will feature Goofy and his friends in seasonal outfits, while Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa’s Storyteller’s Cafe will offer “all-new autumn-inspired breakfast and brunch, complete with seasonal décor and characters debuting new festive looks.”

In the announcement, Disney teased a lot of new Halloween merchandise, including apparel, accessories, headwear, and other spirited garb. We’ll share more about these offerings when more information is made available. As of now, we know you’ll be able to find it all over the Disneyland Resort and online at the Disney Store.

Over at Disney California Adventure, Día de los Muertos-inspired Plaza de la Familia will offer music, exclusive décor, new foods, and live entertainment through November 2nd, 2024.
Disney highlighted the Árbol de la Vida (Tree of Life) photo location and memory wall, as well as the musical celebration of Coco, which will be returning this year with a new name, story, and costumes. Be sure to check the Disneyland app for showtimes, which are promised to be several times a day.

Pluto’s Pumpkin Pursuit was also confirmed to return this year. The hidden pumpkin hunt was previously only held at Downtown Disney, but has been extended into Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure as well this Halloween season. Activity maps can be purchased at several locations in the resort and completing the scavenger hunt will win you a special collectible keepsake!

The main event during Halloween Time is the returning Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure. This after-hours event lets you dress up in costumes while you meet rare characters, chow down on event-exclusive snacks, get the chance to bring home special merchandise, experience lower ride wait times, see live entertainment, and more!
