On June 5th, 2024, Disneyland Resort’s Club 33 administrator fell from a golf cart backstage near Disney’s Critter Country. The incident caused serious injuries, and the employee, Bonnye Lear, passed away on June 7th, 2024.

The accident prompted an investigation into the traffic collision that caused Lear’s injuries, and now, we have an update on the incident.
The Orange County Register reported that Anaheim police detectives began investigating the traffic collision shortly after the accident. Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock released a statement to employees in response to the accident.

The statement read, “We are heartbroken by the loss of Bonnye and offer our sincere condolences to everyone who cared for her,” adding, “At this time, we are focused on supporting her family and our cast members through this tragic event and making sure they have the resources they need,” per The Orange County Register.

According to The Orange County Register, Disneyland employees have yet to reveal any safety-related changes that may be implemented as a result of the accident. This is a developing story, and the details of the investigation have not been released.

On June 15th, those close to Lear set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the cost of her funeral and prepare for a legal battle with Disneyland. The campaign is seeking $100,000.

The statement associated with the campaign explains that the family is “seeking support for the tragic and heartbreaking loss of Bonnye Lear, who passed away from a fatal fall off a moving golf cart while working as a Senior Guest Services Manager for Disneyland’s Club 33.”

The statement continued, “Known for her kind, gentle soul and loving personality, Bonnye Lear would light up a room with a level of professionalism that was unmatched. She was a firework and spread her light to all of those around her with enthusiasm and grace.”

The Lear family is seeking funds “for any costs associated with the rectification of this tragic accident, including cremation, memorial service, a strong legal team to seek justice for her death, and any other unexpected costs.” Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock’s letter to employees also stated, “We are focused on supporting Bonnye’s family and know this is also a difficult time for many of our cast members,” according to The Orange County Register.
Our thoughts are with Lear’s family at this time.
