NEWS: Permit Filed for Disney World's Most Popular Ride

Disney World’s Pandora in Animal Kingdom is probably still one of its most popular lands.

Just walking through there on any given day and you’re bound to see long lines for the two rides there, ESPECIALLY for Flight of Passage. Let’s just say the
Avatar movies are HUGE with Disney fans. Well, something mysterious is happening at one of those attractions.

So we look through permits that Disney files for things at the park just to see if things are getting updated or if anything new is going on. Well, we discovered a mysterious permit filed on February 29th for work at 471 W. Savannah Cir. A little digging led us to discover that this address is for the Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey show building (they share the building).

The permit names Buena Vista Construction as the contractor for work that includes providing labor, material, and/or electrical for construction. But what does that mean? Here’s a full look at the permit:

As you can see, there are no REAL details as to what kind of work will be going on with these attractions. It could be something as simple as a bit of maintenance and refurbishment. If that’s the case, we might end up seeing the ride closing temporarily, which would certainly impact other rides in Animal Kingdom as it consistently posts the highest wait times in all of Disney World.

However, this permit could be for something bigger — maybe a change or update to the ride or its queue. We know there are MORE Avatar movies in the works — could the ride be updated to reflect the new films?

Avatar director James Cameron has also commented that Disney CEO Bob Iger had shown interest in potentially updating Flight of Passage in light of the new movies. In 2022, Cameron said, “When Bob Iger came back a couple weeks ago, I did send him an email and say, ‘You know, we can do ‘Avatar 2’ and 3 motifs and put them into the physical hardware of “Avatar Flight of Passage.”

Cameron then said that Iger “liked that idea.” So is this THAT?

Now, we can’t get TOO excited just yet as Disney has not made any announcements regarding the ride. But that won’t stop us from letting all the wild theories run around in our heads of how the ride could be changed.
