Sometimes things happen in Disney World, and you don’t always get to do something you really wanted to do, like ride an attraction or meet a special character.

We’ve seen rides close due to technical issues and bad weather. We’ve seen rides close for refurbishment. But an entire section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom is closed today.
We were visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom today, July 12th, to say hello to all our animal friends when we saw a message pop up on the My Disney Experience app. Disney notified us that Rafiki’s Planet Watch is closed. The message also says that Cast Members are working to get it up and running again.

We went by the Wildlife Express Train Station, which takes visitors to Rafiki’s Planet Watch to confirm, and yes, it is closed.

We also spoke with a Cast Member who explained that the area is closed due to maintenance on the Wildlife Express train tracks.

Rafiki’s Planet Watch is a small land located inside Animal Kingdom where visitors can get up close to pet some animals at the Affection Section. It’s also home to the Conservation Station, which has some exhibits on animal life, as well as a veterinary treatment window that allows visitors to see Disney veterinarians work with animals. This is where you’ll also find the Animation Experience, where you can take a drawing class from a Disney animator.

So if you visit Animal Kingdom today, all of these activities will be unavailable to guests. However, a Cast Member did tell us that they hope to have everything open again tomorrow.
We’ll continue to keep an eye on the situation and let you know if there are any updates, so be sure to check back with AllEars again soon.
