PHOTOS: The Expedition Everest Reopening is Off to a ROCKY Start in Disney World!

Have you ever been let down by a Disney World attraction? Sometimes, things break down, the weather causes a ride to shut down, or a lengthy refurbishment ruins your plans. There’s nothing worse than being caught by surprise in Disney World!

A popular Disney World attraction had some technical difficulties this morning; let’s take a look!

Allow us to walk you through our morning. We arrived at Disney’s Animal Kingdom bright and early and headed straight for Expedition Everest. The attraction closed for refurbishment back in early 2022, and after months of waiting, we finally learned that the attraction would reopen today (April 16th).

It’s a good day for a little train ride, right?

On our way over to Everest, we could hear the train running (for the first time in months)! By around 7:50AM, we made it to Expedition Everest and hopped in line. Shortly after getting in line, though, Cast Members began to close the line to new guests — the attraction was having technical difficulties. Just like that, the line was cleared and we had to exit the queue.

Upon reopening, Expedition Everest was added to the Disney Genie+ lineup, meaning that guests can purchase Genie+ for $15 per ticket per day and reserve a spot to skip the line at Expedition Everest and several other Disney attractions. Before the closure, Expedition Everest was one of the Individual Lightning Lane attractions, so we were excited to test out the new system!

Cast Members gave guests a Genie+ Experience Redemption pass, which allows people to reserve a Lightning Lane at any available Genie+ attraction.

UPDATE: Expedition Everest has since reopened!
