EPCOT is undergoing a massive transformation right now.
In the next few weeks, a new merchandise shop on the way, Club Cool will reopen, big changes will debut at the France Pavilion in World Showcase, and there are even more construction projects in the works. And, today, we spotted another change in the park at an iconic attraction that we didn’t expect!
We were riding Spaceship Earth in EPCOT today when we noticed that two of the animatronics that we normally see were missing! The first one was in the cave scene where there is usually a caveman animatronic to the left of the Mammoth drawing.
But, today, the animatronic was completely missing from the scene. Though others were still in place.
And, as the ride went on, we noticed that there was also something missing from the scene where Rome is burning. Here’s what the scene normally looks like…
..and here’s what it was today. The Roman Soldier had been removed and all that was left of the animatronic was some of his armor on the ground.
Back in 2019, Disney announced that Spaceship Earth would be reimagined with new narration, new music, and a new focus on defining the human story as part of the EPCOT Transformation. But, the project was reportedly delayed and Disney has not provided any update on the project since.
So, with the big refurbishment still postponed, the animatronics are likely just receiving routine maintenance and we expect to see them back in their scenes soon. Though, we’ll continue to keep an eye out for more updates, so be sure to stay tuned to AllEars for the latest!

We always enjoy Spaceship Earth. However, I always felt the return trip down wasn’t as good compared to what it was before. If and when the ride does change, I hope it’s not a drastic change.
