Warning: Don’t Ride These Disney World Rides With Strangers!

Have you ever had to sit next to a stranger in Disney World?

Magic Kingdom

Whether you were traveling to the parks alone, you were the odd man out in your party of five, or you just made a friend in the queue and decided to board the ride with them, chances are that you’ve been placed on a ride with someone you don’t know. Most of the time, it’s not too bad.

However, there are some rides where it’s downright uncomfortable and weird, so, yeah, we’re talking about those!

Astro Orbiter

Dear Disney World, let us be frank and tell you — the Astro Orbiter rockets are NOT made for two full-grown humans! First of all, you have to do the awkward moves to get inside the ride vehicle, and then you have to get uncomfortably close to the person you’re riding with. (If you’ve never done it before, it involves some lap-sitting!)

And then the ride slings you around in a surprisingly fast loop!

We don’t recommend riding this one with another person until you’re married to them…otherwise, it’s just weird. And even after that, we don’t recommend riding in pairs unless you want knee surgery, because the person sitting on the bottom will have their legs slammed into the sides of the metal rocket for the duration of the ride. Ride this one alone for your safety and well-being.

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run can be one of the most fun rides in Disney World, especially if you find yourself in a party of six. However, if you’re a smaller party, you may meet your demise at the hands of a seven-year-old child. Confused? Let us explain.

Unless you like ramming into walls and other ships…do your best to be a pilot.

If you have a smaller party, you’ll likely be boarded with another group of guests, and you may find yourself playing the part of engineer (basically just pushing buttons) while a stranger’s elementary-age children pilot the ship. It’s all fun and games until your questionably qualified pilots ram the Falcon into the wall repeatedly, and your Blue Milk and Ronto Wrap threaten to come back out the wrong way.

Space Mountain

Listen, let’s all just be honest and admit that Space Mountain is perhaps the most awkward ride vehicle to get in and out of in Disney World. To get in, you have to step into the vehicle, squat down, and slide your legs under the seat in front of you, and to get out, you have to contort your body in a complicated series of acrobatics that Cirque du Soleil performers would be proud of.

It’s not the most graceful vehicle to get in and out of.

Unless you want a stranger to watch you do some very uncomfortable movements and make some potentially embarrassing noises, we suggest riding this one only with people you’re already quite comfortable with!

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin/Toy Story Mania

Are you a competitive person? Do you really want a stranger to see that less-than-pleasant side of you if you lose? If the idea of your family or friends beating you at one of Disney’s competition rides makes your blood boil, then maybe you should skip riding it with someone you don’t know.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

Basically, if you hop on Buzz Lightyear or Toy Story Mania with another person, one of two things will likely happen: you’ll lose and feel incompetent, or you’ll win and feel like a jerk. There are no true winners here unless you’re both terrible and you laugh it off. In that case, congratulations, you’ve met your soulmate.

DINOSAUR

We’re pretty certain that 50% of the American population is terrified of DINOSAUR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Time travel, strobe lights, a ride vehicle that’ll give you whiplash, and more gigantic scary dinosaur animatronics than we care to count…what’s not to love?!

Dinosaurs…dinosaurs EVERYWHERE.

If you’re sitting next to a stranger on this ride, we can nearly guarantee that one of you is going to freak out when you see the humongous Carnotaurus at the end. So either you’ll embarrass yourself by crying onto the shoulder of someone you don’t know, or you’ll have a stranger’s fingerprint marks on your arm for the rest of the day thanks to their death grip.

Mad Tea Party

Do we really need to explain why it’s a bad idea to ride Mad Tea Party with a stranger? There’s a good chance that you’re going to end up in a teacup with a psycho who thinks the best way to enjoy the ride is at MAXIMUM VELOCITY.

It’s just a LOT of spinning. Over and over again.

And even if it is their fault, we guarantee you’re going to feel pretty guilty when you hurl on them. They’ll be mad at you, even though they were the ones who decided to create a human centrifuge.

Mission: SPACE

And speaking of “human centrifuge,” let’s discuss the only Walt Disney World ride that comes with barf bags! Not only does Mission: SPACE spin you around until you feel like you’ll never walk straight again, but it also traps you in a teeny tiny compartment with people you don’t know.

If the ride is divided into two intensities, then maybe you should skip it.

Claustrophobia and motion sickness are perhaps the deadliest duo in the theme park world, and this ride has them both! And if for some reason the ride breaks down, do you really want to be shoulder-to-shoulder with someone you don’t know inside of a shoebox?

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

When we’re talking about rides that force you to be shoulder-to-shoulder, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train takes the cake! Disney World’s rides are usually pretty friendly for people of all sizes, but this is one of the few that are nice and…snuggly.

You get to be nice and cozy!

If you are blessed in the area of the hips or the shoulders, you’ll be pressed up against the person next to you — something that wasn’t too appealing even pre-COVID.

There you have our list of rides that you probably shouldn’t ride with strangers. Thankfully, many of these you won’t have to board with another person, especially during a time where there are extra health and safety measures in place. 1. We got sat with another family on Dinosaur. Dude was *smashing* my foot the entire ride, and I could not make him understand the problem.
