Yesterday, Disney World released their proposed reopening plan and date, including the reopening of Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom on July 11th, and the reopening of EPCOT and Hollywood Studios on July 15th.

Prior to the theme parks opening, Disney World also plans to reopen its Disney Vacation Club Resort hotels on property, along with Fort Wilderness Resort and Campgrounds, on June 22nd. In a letter sent to Disney Vacation Club members, it was noted that the required face masks for guests and Cast Members would also be necessary in “public resort areas”, but not many more details were given. Today, Disney World’s website has been updated with some clarifications on the required face coverings.

According to the Disney World website, “”All Guests ages 3 and up—along with Cast Members—are required to wear face coverings when visiting Walt Disney World Resort. Please bring your own face coverings and wear them at all times, except when dining or swimming.

This language is notable, as previously Disney had not released any information on health and safety protocols that would be implemented at resort hotel pools. However, the language does not provide clarification for what rules will be in place around the swimming pool area, or while not swimming. Currently, CDC guidelines also recommend not wearing a mask while swimming, but do advise they should be worn outside of the pool.

Additionally, Disney has also stated what would count as a face covering, sharing the following requirements:
  • Fully cover an individual’s nose and mouth and allow the Guest to remain hands-free
  • Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
  • Be secured with ties or ear loops
  • Be made of breathable material, either disposable or reusable

Stay tuned as we continue to bring updates on the reopening of Disney World!

  1. How long will Disney require face masks to be worn in the parks? We had our vacation planned this past March, and everything closed 10 days before our trip, we rescheduled to November but, if they’re still requiring masks that far out we will cancel and go in a couple of years.

  2. Unless things majorly change…we won’t be going in October. I do not want my vacation to feel like I’m being watched constantly to be made to abide by some crazy rules… Yes, wearing masks OUTSIDE when you are socially distancing is CRAZY

  3. LOL! Yeah, that sounds fun! Relaxing in a lounge chair at the pool with your face covered. No thank you!

  4. I arrive in Disney on 7/29. Family of 5. Where cAn I get Disney face masks like the one molly has on?
