Disney to Donate $2 to Help Save the Lions When Guests Ride Kilimanjaro Safaris

Did you know that since The Lion King was released 25 years ago, that more than half of the population of lions in Africa has vanished? HALF.

Well, Disney has recognized this huge loss and is doing something to try to fix it!

A few weeks ago we shared a few conservation initiatives that Disney has started recently — you can read all about the “Protect the Pride” campaign here.

Today we’re excited to share another way that Disney’s Conservation Fund is going to donate to the “Protect the Pride” campaign.

And you can help! If you find yourself visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom during the opening week of the new live-action version of The Lion King (July 19 -25, 2019), then be sure to hop on Kilimanjaro Safaris.

When you do, Disney is going to donate $2 to the Wildlife Conservation Network’s Lion Recovery Fund!  That’s right, Disney will donate $2 for every person who rides this attraction during that week (up to $350,000).

With this small act, you can help Disney and the Wildlife Conservation Network’s Lion Recovery Fund reach the $3 million dollar goal so they can work toward doubling the population of the lions by 2050!  Pretty awesome, right?

Do you always look for the lions when you’re on Kilimanjaro Safari? We do! Let us know if you’ll be supporting this effort in the comments below!

  1. Just as a point to make, the new Lion King movie isn’t live action, it’s all computer generated made to appear like live action. It’d be pretty tough to get all those animals to act and sing like that.

    1. I’m quite certain most people are aware of that. What I’m not certain about is what that point has to do with Kilimanjaro Safaris or the saving of endangered lions.
