Hidden Gem of Hollywood Studios
Pros:
I love Backlot Express. It boasts y tons of seating inside Hello AC. Bathrooms Inside. Self-Serve Fountain soda Machines aka Free refills. A great selection of alcoholic beverages to pair with dining plans. Plant based burger is fabulous.Cons:
A basic chicken fingers / burgers. Only one plant based option.Reviewed by MoDisneyInKY Review Date: 02/25/2024

This is a good place to go if you are wanting the basic theme park food like burgers, chicken nuggets, etc. They also have some sandwiches and burgers you can only get there which is a nice way to switch up the usual cheeseburger. There is a decent amount of seating inside so it's nice for a little break from the heat while eating. They also have a lot of seating outside. I got the pulled pork burger and it was very good. Someone else in my party got the Cuban sandwich and it was also very good. Is it the best quick service ever? No, but it is a nice place to cool off and get a bite to eat.
Pros:
Options for everyone in the family, lots of seatingCons:

Interesting take on standard “theme park food.” Cooked well and seemingly fresh. Great decor full of wonderful easter eggs and props. Generally crowded, but Mobile Order is always a plus. Could maybe have more variety, could also be more disability-friendly in terms of layout.
Pros:
Good food that caters to wide audience. Great ambiance for movie buffs.Cons:
Crowded, not very wheelchair friendly.Reviewed by Anonymous Review Date: 02/04/2024

In all of my years coming to the Disney Parks, today’s experience at the Backlot Express was the worst food I’ve Ever Experienced! We ordered the Southwest Salad which was supposed to have chicken breast on it (as per the signage), but actually had undercooked chicken thighs with disgusting pieces of uncooked chicken skin thrown in! It was totally inedible & I brought it to the attention of the manager who said that she was aware of the switch of the chicken parts and that nobody seems to want to change the menu sign that says it contains chicken breast meat. That is totally unacceptable! Exceptionally POOR management allowing this to happen with their knowledge of it!

It's your typical theme park food. Nothing crazy. The wookie cookie is the standout dish and is really good. Everything else is just ok, but there is food for pickey eaters.

The Wookie Cookie is just not what I expected or what it is touted to be. I heard for a long time before my vacation how good it was and how it tasted like a "Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pie". Well, don't be fooled. The two cookies are large which is a plus, but they are hard and really do not have any oatmeal taste or texture. The cream filling is good - we ended up tossing the cookies after scraping off the cream filling. The little chocolate bar on the top of the cookie is tasty. Overall, not a terrible treat...but don't think you are getting a Little Debbie...it is nothing like those delicious little pillows of fun.
Pros:
The cream filling.Cons:
The hard cookies have no oatmeal taste or texture.Reviewed by Anonymous Review Date: 08/31/2023

I had the Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork Burger. I asked if I could get it without the burger, but no. I don't get why they don't have a just a pulled pork sandwich. I loved this, once I pulled off the burger. The burger would just make it too much to eat for me. I loved everything else about the pork Sandwich though, the coleslaw, crispy onions, BBQ sauce. It was messy but oh so good. Family liked what they got too - Bacon Cheeseburgers, Teriyaki chicken bowl and kids mac n cheese. The mac n cheese here was very soupy though. He said it tasted good, but we should have poured out some of cheese sauce though. Loved the self-serve drink station though. Lots of refills and then one ice water to fill the water bottles to go.
Pros:
self serve drink station. Lots of indoor seating in the air conditioning. Great BBQ pork sandwich.Cons:
Can't get just BBQ sandwich - has to come w/burger that makes it too big to eat. Soupy kids mac & cheese.Reviewed by aled Review Date: 08/29/2023

My family and I LOVE the Backlot Express. The atmosphere is very nostalgic for me since it is one of the few places that remains true to the original MGM theming of a Hollywood backlot. And the food is quintessential theme park faire with some added surprises. For example, my mom and I got the Cuban Sandwich which was absolutely delicious and unique. It had seasoned pork, ham, with mustard binded together with a gooey melted Swiss cheese on a panini style bread. 10/10 would get that again. If that is not your speed then they also have burgers and chicken fingers with McDonald’s style fries which are also satisfying for the theme park guest on the go. What’s more there is plenty of seating in and outdoors!

We're a family of four with two adventurous eaters (adults) and two picky eaters (kids). We ate lunch at Backlot Express in July 2022. My husband and I both ordered the Southwest Chicken Salad which was very good and light enough for a hot summer day. My older son (9) had the adult chicken strip meal with the four strips which was so nice because many restaurants only have the small child's portion (two strips) on the menu, and we often had to augment his order at other restaurants during our trip. The younger was happy with his two chicken strips, yogurt, and french fries. We were there during the lunch rush when it was very crowded and so we felt fortunate to find an indoor table. The self-fill drink station was a big plus for us.
