NEW Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Monsters, Inc. Park Expansion in Disney World

We have been waiting to get updates on the new Monsters, Inc. land coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios ever since the closure of Muppets Courtyard to build it, and now the announcements are starting to pour in!

Disney finally started to share some brand-NEW details about the new land, and why we’re entering the world of Monstropolis. On top of that, Disney Imagineering posted a video to give us a behind-the-scenes look at the construction that’s going on. Of course, we’re sharing it with you!

We now know the story behind why we’re headed to Monstropolis. Thanks to Boo, monsters discovered that laugh power is much more efficient than scream and that humans weren’t toxic to monsters. That led to the creation of the Department of Human Relations in Monstropolis, and the idea that for the first time, humans and monsters could come together.

The Department of Human Relations in Monstropolis is now introducing H.U.M.A.N Day, short for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice,” to celebrate the coming together of two worlds.

Part celebration, part cultural exchange, the event is designed to introduce humans to life inside Monstropolis while helping monsters discover that humans are not so frightening after all. We’ve gotten some awesome behind-the-scenes footage of the construction site.

We even got a quick look at the building that looks like it’ll be Monsters, Inc.! The building will have the very first suspended roller coaster at Disney World, and it will take you through the doors area from the movie. The building is HUGE!

We’re trying our best to stay calm, cool, and collected when looking at this stuff, because we are EXCITED. We can’t wait to hear more about this new land and what’s coming with it, alongside Harryhausen’s and the Glob Theatre.

Disney Imagineering also shared a first look at the Drawn to Wonderland Playground, inspired by Alice in Wonderland. The playground will be at the new Magic of Disney Animation building at the Walt Disney Studios courtyard at Hollywood Studios.

The Drawn to Life Playground features tons of equipment intentionally designed for many different ages. The areas in the playground have trees, flowers, houses, clouds, and more.

The playground also features sensory play for little ones to interact with!

Since it’s an indoor playground, Disney Imagineering has to be mindful of the space and constraints within it, and they make the most of it. With the constraints of the building having been an office, they need to work around columns. They made the playground to be themed like a collage with flat set pieces and painted art.

They shared one of the favorite pieces of equipment at the playground, which allows you to “paint” the flowers red or white.

In some other brief news, Disney Imagineering has finished working on Goofy for the Disney Magic. They took him off the ship and gave him a new paint job with minor repairs on the dry dock.
