Disney Is Updating an ICONIC Attraction, But No One Seems To Mind

Typically, when Disney World updates classic attractions, there is a big hullabaloo.

Ride and attraction updates are often met with intense criticism from fans online, even before the work begins on the physical location. But recently, an attraction update was announced for Magic Kingdom, and nobody really seems to mind!

At Destination D23 (Disney’s fan convention held in August 2025), it was announced that Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress is getting updated in Magic Kingdom. This show was one of the four Disney attractions that appeared at the 1964-1965 World’s Fair, and Walt Disney himself worked on it — thus, his name is in its official title. But, with an attraction as old as this one, it’s no surprise that it has been in need of some updates.

After more than 30 years, the show will be getting a brand-new intro, featuring Walt Disney himself! Carousel of Progress will receive a Walt Disney animatronic similar to the one that premiered in Disneyland Park earlier in 2025.

At the time of this announcement, Disney teased, “There are still plenty of additional details to be revealed, including what John, Sarah, and the rest of the family are up to.” We’ll be interested to see if they update any of the other scenes, considering the “future” Christmas scene is now a little outdated.

With Disney making changes to such an iconic attraction, we would expect some strong reactions from fans. So far, everyone seems to share a positive opinion of this update! No one really denies that the show is in need of some TLC, and it seems as though all changes will be done with the heart of Carousel of Progress in mind.

Disney confirmed, “Imagineers love this attraction and the heart of it will stay the same while introducing the Carousel of Progress to an entirely new generation of fans, showing them that a great big, beautiful tomorrow is just a dream away.” We can’t wait to see what they announce soon!
